Hi everyone hope you can help . . . This is my first post, so forgive me if I mess up.

I have accidently deleted a file on my C drive . . . C:\Users\David\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows
It is the Temporary Internet Files and is now causing problems.
If I run CCleaner it Hangs/Freezes, when it comes to that file and even Task Manager will not close it! I can't even restart the PC, I have to crash out.
When I then restart, CCleaner is closed but the samething happens if I run it again.
I have tried to create the file again, but it says "Confirm folder Replace" This destination already contains a folder named Temporary Internet Files . . . Do you still want to merge this folder.
If I say yes, it still doesn't appear. I have Administrator privileges and it is not hidden (I have a reasonable knowledge of computing)
Hope somebody can put me on the right track.

Regards, davevont

Thanks for quick replies . . . . .

Edwar . . . Tried the Reboot, even after overnight power off, but no luck. Thanks anyway.

ecevit . . . Not easy with System Restore. Every time a restore point is created in windows 8, it only seems to last a short while and then it's gone! I do keep a 'Macrium Reflect System Image' I made the latest a few days ago, so if all else fails I'll have to use that.
By the way, Macrium Reflect is brilliant, I think much better than System Restore, although it does take a while, but very reliable.

As far as I know , Temporary Internet Files is a folder not a file. Try making a new folder and renaming it to that name.

Temporary Internet Files.JPG

Hi ecevit . . . . As I said in the original thread . . .

I have tried to create the file again, but it says "Confirm folder Replace" "This destination already contains a folder named Temporary Internet Files . . . Do you still want to merge this folder" If I say yes, it still doesn't appear.

That folder is a hidden System folder and will not show unless you have turned on Show Hidden and system files/folders.

I suspect that folder already is there, like the dialog says when you try to create another, and is not in any way part of your other problems.

The simple fact is Windows/Internet Explorer will always Re-Create that folder (Temp INet Files) if it is deleted. If you did really Delete it when it got re-created it Re-Set the Hidden/System attributes and that is why you can't see it.

Hi Edwar . . . . Your dead right !! I've just gone into 'folder options' VIEW. the 'show hidden file folder' was already checked, so I also unchecked the 4 Hide boxes under . . . . and the it was !!
I've just run CCleaner again and it sailed through without a problem. What was causing the problem, I don't know, but I'll give you guys the credit . . . . . . . many, many thanks.
I'm still going to be apprehensive of running CCleaner for a while, but I think that's a SOLVED . . . .

ps. WHAT THE HECK DID I DELETE THEN ?? or was it a problem with CCleaner or something in Temporary Internet Files ??

Under the Temp INet folder there are several sub-folder with many many files inside all those sub-folder. It could of been those file you deleted, which I do all the time (that is when I actually use I Explorer. Use Chrome mostly). But even if it was the Top Most folder, Temporary Internet Files, Windows/I Explorer would just re-create it.

Unless you have made changes to the Recycle bin all folder/files you delete end up in there, until you empty it. So you can always open the Recycle Bin and look at what is in there.
