I have absolutely no bloody idea...
ok.. so sometimes I get an 'this app is preventing shutdown' and before I can decide what to do.. it shuts off on its own.

any ideas?

doesnt appear to be causing any real problems.. and I'm sure the computer would complain if there were any..

You could use Task Manager to identify the programs running right before shutdown. Then you could shut them down one by one before shutting down and, thereby, possibly eventually identifying the offending program. What's happening isn't a problem, maybe just a tad annoying.

you know.. i keep forgetting to shut down task manager when I close the desktop.. the standard settings for taskbar buttons make it hard if not outright impossible to spot if you have something open...

its entirely possible that its the task manager... I like to have it up when I'm on the computer and let me just go on record as saying how much more infinitely useful and informative the task manager on windows 8 is.

I think when I begin moving my files in later this week, i'll change that from the default settings to the one that groups buttons and labels only when the taskbar is full..

It's not an problem. That screen comes up if an app takes too long to shutdown. The fact that it then goes away means the app was just being slow about shutting down, and it finally did, otherwise the screen would persist.

I hope figuring it out turns out to be that easy, that is, if the "problem" is bothering you.

this problem is mainly due to windows app such as music, movies, photos etc.. when u open any of these apps and close them again most of the times they will be closed completely some time they will be closed and when u open task manager>processes>app under this the apps will be running select the apps that are running and end the task before shutting down u r system then u will not get this error msg saying app is preventing from shutting down.
