Curious problems

So i had the pleasure of helping a few people this week with new windows 8 laptops, all had different problems, some had the same.

the ones with similar issues were secure boot problems, they all describe the same course of events, computer did updates then nothing dead on restart complaining about a corrupt or infected file, resolution-- go to bios disable secure boot and it goes into recovery mode, now have 17 more people coming in tomorrow with the same problem.

that is a bit beyond a joke if i'm honest, no idea how they managed this but they are all on laptops, I like any good repair tech, called all the customers i'd built windows 8 towers for and checked on them, not a single problem even after the updates, possibly due to the fact they don't have the bios these laptops do? just a guess at this point seeing as the message on all laptops is a secure boot problem.

other problems, my first time seeing an actual fault code in windows 8, gives a lovely blue screen offers to fix the uefi bios...does nothing, flash that then says you have a corrupt/infected file so i disable secure boot, boots to fixing windows try a reset and a factory install then i try a clean install using proper windows 8 media...laptop shuts down half way through on each occasion, check the ram check the hdd all fine the laptop is 1 week old and turned on twice in that time. diagnosis...return to vendor get a new one.

along with the customers i will see tomorrow with the update problem there are others all with windows 8 laptops with problems.

one customers windows 8 lappy pretty much just forgets any network connection, hangs in internet explorer 10, granted he didn't even know how to get out of the program either and get back to the start screen....took great effort not to just take his laptop off him and give him a pen and peice of paper and say this will access the internet too...i'll bet it would have taken him a week to figure that out.

i've ran windows 8 since the developer preview and not had any of these issues on my netbook or on my desktop, I sit through painstaking hour after hour with customers that buy it from me teaching them how to use it, where to access things and modify the start screen, i offer them the shell classic start menu to give them something familiar if they want, I show them how to snap programs to the sides to view multiple apps and how to close them, these customers don't come back to me asking how to do something every day.

I like windows 8 and so do my customers, maybe because they know enough about it when they leave with their new pc, but microsoft are taking a serious risk here, so many seem to be lost when it comes to this o/s and frankly some issues of late have me getting frustrated with it as well.

I hated laptops before windows 8...I hate them even more now.

I have a Fujitsu P400 (NO OS version) uEFI BIOS & Secure Boot, done about 200 test reinstalls with no update problems.(wired)

i didn't say it was common...i did say it was my first time seeing it......hence the weird problem and no idea what caused it.

Most likely WIRELESS, I never use it for updates or downloads.

so the wireless is stopping it from booting properly? installing and causing shutdowns during clean install?

or do you mean the updates were corrupted because of the wireless?

either way that's a bizzare set of circumstances that bricked the laptop.

Yes, I have seen alot, had one came down to bad earth on a mixer in the kitchen.

i have seen similar issues, however they never bricked the laptop before just from an update, granted it could be something else but considering it won't accept an install of any o/s i'm not so sure.

when i say bricked i really do mean a dead laptop, can't reinstall or repair the install, replacing the hdd doesn't resolve the issue neither did flashing the bios.

hence why i said it was weird going back to toshiba anyway, they have said it's fault they are aware of but didn't say what it was
