Transferring windows 8 partitions to another larger drive

I bought a new 2 tb hard drive and I am going to transfer the windows 8 partitions to the new drive when I get it. How can I do this ? My soon to be old drive is 500 gb . What about using hard drive cloning softwares ? Do imaging softwares work ? Any ideas ? Thanks in advance.

I got an image of windows 8 partitions using macrium reflect free. Would it work restoring the image to the new hard drive ? If I use disk clone softwares that make exact copies, can I resize or make new partitions on the new hard drive ?

I tried macrium reflect on one of my data hard drives and it didn't work. Then I downloaded and installed minitool partition wizard and this worked flawlessly . I was able to boot my pc with cloned disk and everything worked fine except a few settings. I am going to install the os to the new hard drive tomorrow by using minitool partition wizard.

I finally got the new hard drive. In my first attemp to clone the old drive, it failed . Then I booted and closed the pc a few times. After that disk cloning was succesful and I am now using the new hard drive. I used minitool partition wizard home edition.

I used EaseUS backup software (home). It's free for 30 days, so you only need it once. Just ran the program. Choose the 'clone disk' option... and wait. Went from 250GB to 750GB. Booted on first try. Cheers
