Earth to MS: "The customer is ALWAYS right!"

See the loyal MS shills still refusing to acknowledge that no matter what the company would like they are selling a product to the customer, and the bottom line is that

"The customer is ALWAYS right".

It appears that the arrogance of the executives at so many large companies of late have completely lost this basic understanding of what makes a business truly successful. Vision is wonderful, but if it doesn't meet or exceed the expectations of the customer then it is a abject FAILURE. The brass tacks at these companies need have had too much time studying crazy theories that are fed to them at the various elite bidness schools as they study for their MBAs.

If MS was smart they would have allowed the customer to have the choice of which GUI to boot directly into. But obviously the developers think that they can pull off
the very rare "Jobs". It ain't gunna happen.

Which customer are you referring to exactly? The ones that love the product? Or the ones that hate it?

You realize that it's impossible for both of them to be right, right?

So.. umm.. what was that about arrogance again?

Incorrect. The only people that are "right" are the stockholders and the board of trustees. We are just pawns on the chess board. If you had stock in Microsoft, you might want a more enlightened and profitable future than a flat desktop. A traditional NT4 model has no growth potential. Microsoft is not currently selling UNIXified Operating Systems. Windows 7 is beginning to age.

From what it seems only a small handful of customers "love" the metro UI, a lot more will grudging tolerate it not knowing any better, although this makes for a very unsatisfied customer that might not be one again, and plenty more hate it.

The bottom line is that for most people in a laptop desktop environment the metro UI is awkward and unpleasant to use, even with touch it doesn't make sense.

If the "geniuses" would have simply given the customer the "choice" to select which UI at boot it would have made me certainly think differently about Windows 8, but the inexcusable act was to make this IMPOSSIBLE.

Actually, if there are no customers then there is no shareholders or BoT to be concerned about. LOL

Again I and most others are NOT saying 8 shouldn't offer the metro UI, they are saying that there should be a "choice" as to which the customer can use.

You and I have very different opinions on what "it seems". Everyone I know personally that has actually used it, loves it. Everyone that played with it in a Virtual machine when they were bored, hates it. Surface RT has sold well, not as well as MS would have liked, but modestly so, and it's received very good reviews.

In fact, all the polls on this site have shown that there are more people that like or love it than there are that hate it. The haters are just very vocal.

Well I've found the complete opposite IN A DESKTOP AND LAPTOP situation most people I know find it irritating, awkward, and frustrating. As far as a touch screen for that environment it makes no sense and makes for tired hands and arms. This is the view that folks I know (all ages and backgrounds) have mentioned.

I don't disagree that for tablets and phones it is good.

I was prepared to hate the UI, and within a day, I discovered that I could navigate around and begin to enjoy the two different interfaces. I even tend to gravitate toward the Metro UI if I have a choice. I would like to see some more options for customization (for example different tile sizes) but that is minor, and may come with time as the interface evolves.

I do think it was risky for MS to use the same interface for all platforms. The smart phone and tablet usage is significantly different than a desktop or laptop usage...

I don't ever envision myself using a touch screen for my desktop system, but to expect future generations to be tied to an antiquated keyboard is unreasonable... it is just the transition will be less optimal in order to facilitate us old timers for the next few decades. I think a voice interface is ludicrous, even though in many of the sci-fi depictions, that is what some people expect. It will be interesting to see what evolves.

Actually, if there are no customers then there is no shareholders or BoT to be concerned about.

A world without Microsoft, in our generation, is a fantasy. An alternate reality. I would like to see other competing Operating System developers gain a foot hold, but it would be difficult. Even if billions are lost, Microsoft will continue as long as their stock market values are maintained. Even if there is a market crash, it seems unlikely MS will go out of business. If MS stock values tank, then welcome to the XYZ desktop appliance developed by the Menu OS Inc....

I'm a customer. I like what I'm seeing. what's your problem? if you don't like it, don't buy it. that's how consumerism works. you're acting more like a dictator, telling people what they should and shouldn't like.

Nonsense.

You OBVIOUSLY DID NOT read my opening post.

I said since you can't be troubled to read more, that MS should have given the consumer
THE CHOICE as to which UI to boot into as the default.

The "dictatorship" is that of MS forcing the consumer to ALWAYS boot into metro UI FIRST BEFORE they can reach the desktop.

The Microsoft Dictator Sinofsky is gone now, so I think Microsoft get the message. It's months that I see this come, it's months that say to everyone about Sinofsky, I accuse him to be in his own bubble, the bubble blow today. They trust the guy , it don't turn well, now they gone trust their customers.

I didn't notice this while trying it out but just saw a screenshot, there are a few things in the interface that feel unfinished. I saw in the internet explorer everything is flat and then the menu seems to get more shadow. Seems kinda off to me. Although I wouldn't say I hate it, the interface does leave a lot to be desired. It does seem to take away some of our options. I wish they didn't kill the Courier or zune those were some of the better products coming out of Microsoft.

You know, I've worked in retail before and have been told that the customer is always right, even if they're really wrong and giving you shite over something so idiotically mundane, they're ALWAYS right. :D

The unfortunate thing is that MS dropped the ball on one of their biggest positives. That they were willing to give the customer CHOICE, as opposed to the fruit company's OSX.

That was always one of the biggest reasons why I stuck with MS even if occasionally I wasn't thrilled with all aspects of a product. When they want to force me to boot in Win 8 to metro UI in order to get to my desktop that was the last straw.

MS lost a LOT of good will from folks like myself when they decided they wanted to
"pull a Jobs". :sarc:
