If you mean the Win 8 RTM 90-day evaluation version, that's *not* the same as the final retail version that came out on 26 October, and it can't be upgraded.

What part of "Windows 8 pro rtm" makes you think he means an enterprise evaluation?

Google "windows 8 rtm evaluation." And since he wasn't specific, how about we wait for the OP to settle the question...

Doesn't prove a thing. Obviously there's some doubt or he wouldn't have asked the original question in the first place.

Prior to the release of Windows 8, if someone said "I just installed Windows 8 RTM," they were talking about the enterprise evaluation version... Hence the need to clarify what he meant.

There's nothing for anyone to "deal with" except for the original poster to clarify what he meant. I don't think we should be in the habit of assuming things for the sake of expediency... That doesn't help the questioner.

Not necessarily. How and when did you get the "RTM version"? If you downloaded it prior to 26 October, it's not the same as the final retail version, build number notwithstanding. The RTM released through MSDN is a time-locked trial with a fixed expiration date. It can't be upgraded nor permanently activated using a purchased retail key.

That's not true NaySayer. It's just not.

Microsoft has released a 90 day enterprise trial, but this is not the MSDN version. You have been able to get the real, final MSDN from Micorosft since late august. Not timebombed.

Then I stand corrected. However, the enterprise evaluation is referred to as "Windows 8 RTM" all over the web, so my point about the original question being ambiguous is still valid.

No. There was a leak of the enterprise RTM version first. It was not a trial, it was the real full enterprise RTM. Unlike the Pro version, the enterprise version does not require a key to install. As such, you have 30 days to activate, and can rearm it 3 times.

The 90 day trial is a different version. It's good for 90 days (and you can rearm it for 3 additional 90 day stints).

The difference between them is that the trial has a key, the leaked enterprise doesn't. And all of them are the real RTM, but they are enterprise versions. Not Pro versions. And the original author specifically said it was the "pro" version.

Thanks for splitting hairs, but the problem (and the confusion) lies with the inaccurate terminology used by various bloggers, not with me. As I said, the enterprise evaluation version was touted as "Windows 8 RTM" for months. That's simply a fact. So when someone asks "is Windows 8 RTM the same as the final release," it depends on which "Windows 8 RTM" they're talking about - one of the real ones or the EE - hence my inquiry to the OP. And given his original question, I didn't take much stock in his use of the word "Pro." If you know what release-to-manufacture means and you know you've got the actual RTM, then you also know it's the final retail version...

This is correct, when you download the real Enterprise it as already a build in key and it show a 9200 watermark, as sson as you put a real key, the watermark disappear , this is exactly what happen to me

No, I'm not "deep wrong" in any way, shape, or form. Let's say you both do us all a favor and stop attempting to disprove your strawman when I was simply trying to clarify what the poster meant. Christ on a bike...

The whole point of being here is ostensibly to help people, which begins with not making assumptions as to what they're asking. The original question, as stated, makes no sense unless (1) he didn't know which version he had, based on the common practice of calling the enterprise evaluation "Windows 8 RTM"; or (2) he knew which version he had but didn't know what RTM meant. I addressed both issues, rather than simply saying "they're the same" based on my own preconceptions.

He didn't say "Windows 8 RTM". He said "Windows 8 PRO rtm". Note the inclusion of the word "pro" This is not vague, or unclear. He was not referring to an enterprise trial, he was referring to the professional version.

Re-read:

"given his original question, I didn't take much stock in his use of the word 'Pro.' If you know what release-to-manufacture means and you know you've got the actual RTM, then you also know it's the final retail version..."

His question was one big non-sequitur, unless he was uncertain about something - namely, items (1) or (2) above.
