windows.old folder

Hello!
I upgraded from XP to W7 sometime ago. All my XP content was moved to windows.old directory under C drive. Yesterday after upgrading to W8, I noticed that all XP content in windows.old is gone and there are a few folders with users of W7 installation.
I am assuming that the content of windows.old with XP is deleted which is very bad news! If in fact the content of the folder is deleted, is there anyway to get the folders back?

It shouldn't be deleted, unless you ran the disk cleanup wizard, or something like ccCleaner. Windows should have created a Windows.000 folder for your Win7, unless you did an upgrade install in which case there won't be a folder for Windows 7.

I went from 7 to 8 and got a windows.old

My recovery partition is gone so hard to know what it will delete.

I think win8 does that with an in place upgrade.

You do get the windows.old with the immediately previous os.

You can fish stuff out of it. You can't go back using Windows.old. At least I haven't been able to make it work.

Wouldn't be surprised if MS are deliberately doing that to stop people reverting if they like.

No choices.

I did an in place upgrade. Forgot to mention that I did a repair using the W8 disk after my W8 installation run into problems which may or may not be the reason why windows.old was totally wiped without notifying me! thanks for backup and thanks for your input.
