Microsoft not supplying Windows 8 to Guyana

I purchased a Samsung Series 7 Slate in June, so applied and was accepted by Microsoft for the $15 upgrade to Windows 8. I received my special code, but when I tired to use it I am told it is not available in the country I live in. Why is that? Guyana is an English speaking country in South America other South American countries qualify, so why not Guyana? When I applied for the $15 upgrade I stated I live in Guyana so why was I accepted if Microsoft are not going to supply to this area? I just wonder why Microsoft is so partial?

I don't know the answer to your question, but I have a hypothesis.

Microsoft is not allowed to import software into your country from the US for governmental reasons (either US or Guyana). The first possibility that comes to my mind is encryption (if Windows 8 uses any) as there are certain export limitations on encryption, although it could also be something else.

I don't think that Microsoft would arbitrarily cut off any potential market if it wasn't necessary, as they are profit driven, as any other corporation... but I could be wrong.

You could be right, although I can't see why as Guyana buys a lot of merchandise from USA. Another possible reason is that there are no copyright laws here, so it won't be long before folks can buy hacked Windows 8 for $7.50 in the stores here. But I would prefer to have a legitimate version, or does Microsoft want to encourage piracy?

Microsoft always have different product number for different part of the World. If you look on my link, only French Guyana, not Guyana, is available in South America, they must be have another reason that pirating, because I can tell you that I have seen a lot of Pirated MS stuff on store shelf in Peru, and Peru is on the list of availability
