    Windows 8 laptop keyboard problems

Got windows 8 a couple weeks ago. It has been a total nightmare. When I am typing the curser jumps to other words on the page. It does not stay where I am typing
I have been using computers for over 20 yrs. This has to be the worst version of windows yet
Pretty upset with the results of windows 8
Don't know if its me or what. But it seems that window wants me to use only Microsoft stuff. Like mail setup
Had to bring Google into it just to be able to use windows 8

a jumping cursor is usually a sign of a failing trackpad.

some people were able to "fix" the failing trackpad is by disconnecting the notebook from the power supply/outlet. Some people were able to fix the problem by replacing the power brick with a new one.

    Hi cardboard. Welcome to EightForums.

There is a bit more of a learning curve to 8. There is "Learn Windows 8" app in the store. Open the Store and point your cursor to bottom or top right hand corners. A charms bar will appear with search. Type in the app to find.

No one is forced to just use Store apps. Legacy programs run fine via the desktop.

Have you checked the driver for the track pad?

    Try www.eightforums.com/showthread.php?t=3047

    Again, welcome.

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I'm using a Logitech external mouse. Never had the problems with Windows 7, none
And I found out today that my headphones do not work any more
All the problems started after I installed Windows 8

it sounds like you are missing the proper drivers for your touchpad. notably, the ability to adjust "palm check", it sounds like your hand is hitting the touchpad when you type

Exactly...I have the same problem with my Samsung laptop. I use the fn key/f10 combo to turn off touch pad. With mine it's proprietary software with Samsung. When I installed 8 I had to go to Samsung and download the software to be able to turn off the touch pad along with the touch pad driver.

Mine was stuck in with some other software pack. Have a look at the utilities, in particular "ATKACPI driver and hotkey-related utilities". It might be what you're needing.

On your FN keys, the very top row...look for a key with a symbol that looks like your touch pad. When you find that press the fn key that is next to the window key and the fkey with the symbol on it (mine is F10) at the same time. You should see an onscreen flash with something on/off. If you don't that's because of the driver software. But the check it, press the key combination and then check the touch pad and see if it is disabled. If so, that's all you have to do from now on.

It's what I have to do every time I need to use laptop, is turn off touch pad because of it's proximity to the keyboard layout and my thumbs hit it all the time and mouse/cursor goes nuts like you described in your original post.

The issue looks normal. I had this from back on Vista, 7 and now 8 (each time a different laptop).
I usually turn off the touchpad when I type and all is well. Cursor was always moving to the wrong place.
