Can't see extended menus from taskbar icons

Some of my hidden icons on the task bar have extended menus in them. So I will right click on avast and then in that menu is an arrow for a submenu under update. I click on that submenu and it displays to the right and off the screen.

Any idea on how to fix this? Was never an issue with windows 7. If it would extend off the screen it would move the submenu off to the left of the original menu. I have classic shell running as well, would that be the cause of the issue? Or is it a windows 8 thing?

Sounds like it might be Classic Shell. Uninstall it to see. Reinstall when done.

Nope tried uninstalling and same result. Is there any setting to change that keeps things in the viewable area? I have no other monitors attached just the screen for the laptop.
