I just finish to install Windows 8 pro in VM to try the Media Center, it's a desktop application like Windows 7, so I lost my time, it's the same thing as 7  should have Google it before.

What is the purpose to pay extra for pro and Media Center ( in normal time after the special ) if it's the same as Windows 7 ??????

You would be stupid to upgrade to Windows 8 solely for media center. Thankfully, most people don't do that. They upgrade for other reasons, and want to have Media Center in their new OS.

Would you really want that from a tablet?

Isn't a Media Center usually ran from a desktop?

I have a Media Center that is on 24/7 but it's a Synology NAS. It uses alot less power than a PC.

When I installed Media Center I had to do it by getting a key for it then adding features from the control panel. After entering the key for Media Center it installed. It was not a .exe file download.

I just say that I was surprise it was the same as Windows 7, I was expecting a new version, may be a metro one. The think is that I have 0 interest in MC, it's just that many of you was asking for a key, so I give a try .

Just make sure you use and activate at least once with the MC code before Jan 31st. If you don't it becomes inactive and you won't be able to use it at all.

Just because one person doesn't like or use something, doesn't mean everybody doesn't like or use it. A lot of people will use something like that if its preinstalled, rather than hunt for a free alternative. Also, if you've used it before you likely will want to use it again. It all boils down to personal choice. Some like it some don't.

I agree with all that. But there are some excellent alternatives that ought to be tried.

MPC-HC
VLC

even

Kmp and/or Pot

Just google the names...or even ask around. I wouldn't steer ya wrong...:)

I was interested in it for playing tv. The lenovo software is the pits and I thought wmc might be the answer but it is the pits at the bottom of Lenovo's :)

WMC picked up channels but will not display all of them, they are black. It missed two of our main channels which I was able to set up but still have the blank ones.

The Lenovo software when in the small window gives no indication what channel you are on and changing channels is painfully slow. Takes several minutes to go through all the channels. It also picks up all channels available but offers no way to delete channels.

The free keys turn into pumpkins on Jan 31, 2013. Presumably, once activated, they're good forever and will work when you reinstall the OS, but Microsoft doesn't actually say that anywhere that I've found. Someone who cares about this should seek clarification.

Why would anyone use media center anyway....??? There are way better media players out there.

Media Center is the only game in town for protected programming via CableCARD. For unprotected TV, it's still a decent DVR, though it still has a lot shortcomings (29/59 bug, back-to-back recording cutoff unless you force "10 minutes after", incorrect guide data on occasion, etc). For all other library-based video viewing, XBMC is tons better. iTunes is tons better for music, and it has the nifty remote app for a great 1' interface that doesn't require a TV to be on. XBMC can also be used for music if that's your thing. XBMC is also getting official DVR support, though it won't support CableCARD protected content, and the need for Media Center will sadly live on.

As for media players, which I consider to be non-library based programs useful for launching on files directly from Explorer, I like VLC for video and foobar2000 for music. Those are the programs I have associated with video and music file types.

Wow that sucks I was expecting something that looks different or at least updated. On my windows 7 the media player has a bug and the visualization is cut off or something (forgot I have it saved) and it's so irritating that they haven't updated windows media player.
