I Upgraded Windows 7 Home Premium 64 to Windows 8 Pro. Windows 8 now boots to the "Start Page" then a couple seconds later goes to the Desktop. This isn't something I configured it just does it. I do have Start8 from Stardock installed but it isn't configured to go to the desktop on boot either.
Any clue how I can stop this behavior and have Windows 8 stay at the Start Page on Boot?
You are probably starting a program at boot that causes the start menu to lose focus. Pretty much anything that opens a window will cause this, even most splash screens.

Wow... all those folks who are loudly complaining about Not booting to Desktop will want to know what you find out so they can make theirs work like yours
I have a desktop program that starts at login but I still get the Start Screen. I find that clicking the Windows Key takes very little effort.
Well this is just silly. I Run msconfig and open services and there are just to many things listed that the average user would have no idea about. Disabled everything I knew I could with causing problems and still booting to desktop. Windows 8 simply should not lose its focus so easily. If its supposed to boot to the Start Page it should do so unless the user configures it otherwise. Sounds like we need a Windows 8 update here to stop this behavior.
For those average users who want Windows 8 to boot to the desktop, they can get "Start8" from Stardock for $5 and configure it to boot to desktop.
Start8 is good. However, I seldom used the Start Button in XP -- Win7 so probably won't install Start8 now that I'm running the production version of Win 8.
The purpose of the Start Button isn't to take you to the Start Screen. The Start Button (Start8) gives you the XP/Win7 Start Menu which is preferred by some instead of the Start Screen.

I use Win8StartButton to get the Win 7/Vista Start menu back. I prefer it to the Metro stuff. It also boots directly to the Desktop though it does briefly show the Metro desktop.
Downloaded the latest version of Setpoint with Windows 8 support and now Windows 8 no longer boots to the Desktop. Not sure what version I had but I believe it was the immediately previous version.
