Start screen apps not working

i have recently upgraded from windows 7 to windows 8, the start screen apps/buttons are not working, they have never worked, when i click on one it just pops up for 1 second and comes back out, it refuses to load them, i have looked online and tried editing my resolution or whatever people have said to do, but none of it seems to work, what do i do?

There are some things to check initially - UAC must be enabled, the Windows Firewall Service must be running, and you must not be logged on with the built-in Administrator account. You want to make sure all of the above is set before doing any other tshooting.

i have no idea how to see if they are enabled, what do you click on?

When I first upgraded this happened to me.
Updated Windows 7
Did not sign in with a microsoft account.
Opened apps and they instantly closed.

Did a clean install and all worked as they should.
