Ok guys I have a quick question here, I bought the windows 8 pro that costs $69.99 will I still need to have a previous OS for activating this?

The reason I ask is because I upgraded to an SSD and my OS is completely gone, so I installed Windows 8 from boot as brand new installation.

The Windows 8 pro copy you brought is called Retail version. It means you can install it directly on a blank hard drive without any previous OS installation required.

The problem I am having is that it wont take the key that came with the installation DVD, the activation window says the key belongs to an upgrade only version... :|

For $69.99 you got the Upgrade version. The only Full version is the OEM and can be used for Personal Use. It runs about $139.

Is there anyway to get around this even tho I have my windows 7 genuine keys still? I just don't want to erase the whole drive and do a factory reset just to activate windows 8, and thanks for the replies!
