Hi.

I work for an IT company and me and my boss are working on a VB.NET software which will manage several installers, sometimes we have to reinstall Windows and format computers, so the idea is to make a software that doesn't make us to execute several installers in order to install multiple softwares. The software needs to be the most automated as possible, according to my boss, so I was thinking about what if I could just insert the flashdrive and then our software starts installing everything it is supposed to?

The problem is that I don't know how to make the autorun.inf automatically execute my software from the pendrive, I even tried the following:

Code:
[autorun]
open=InstallManager.exe

Although when I insert the flashdrive Windows just pops a message saying what I'd like to do with the pendrive, it doesn't actually execute the software.

Are there no work-arounds for this in windows 8? I would really like my autorun.inf to run something on my stick when I put it in.. searching for hours with no solution.

Hello paradox,

I'm afraid not. Autorun has been hard coded to be disabled for better security.

The smoothest multiple installs I've seen were over the network. You boot from disc/usb and run a menu to choose which software to install.. including the OS. It's just much smoother. You have images of the software on the server and the licensing is designed to allow you to install on so many work stations etc.. It's pretty much boot the workstation onto the network, make choices from the menu, and the installs run unattended.

Of course setting that up to run flawlessly is not trivial. But someone experienced in that area, such as a consultant, may be worth the cost.
