A lot of the time i like to just put on a youtube playlist and just lay in bed and watch it. Idk if this only happens with the youtube app that i am using or if its with jsut being inactive for anything. Is there a way i can prevent windows 8 from auto locking?. I have already disabled the lock screen, but it will still lock and jump to the login screen. I have turned screensaver off. And messed with the advanced power options. Nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

Windows is straight up locking automatically? Does any audio playback continue? And you do mean lock, not sleep? Also, what settings did you change in Power Options?

This is strange.

Yes it is locking and not going to sleep. Since I disabled the lock page thing it just shows the login screen now, and says locked, and monitor is not on screensaver or sleep mode. The application I tested this with is Called Youtube+. Once this happens audio playback stops completely, but once I log back in I noticed that video playback continued. As for the advanced power options I basically turned everything that said turn off or sleep after inactivity to never. I will try to test this with other apps like Netflix and see my results.

Also this was first time I actually got to test windows 7 email app. It alerted me that you replied to my post while I was working. Just thought it was pretty cool :D.

I would definitely try with other apps to see if this keeps happening as well as letting Windows idle with nothing running at all and see if it does that. I think it could be an issue with the app itself that you should report. To see for further info, check the reviews on YouTube+ if other people have that issue.

alright well I just watched an episode on SNL and it didn't lock. Then watched 20mins about on youtube+ so I guess its a problem with that app. I will try to let them know about it. Side note. Is Netflix audio supposed to stop in background? If so I feel like it would be more useful to watch in a desktop browser where I can alt + tab to another app and still hear whats going on.

actually just left my comp for a while just sitting on start screen and when I got back it was locked. So it must be something in my settings.

Usually, a video app will suspend right away as it's not in your focus for obvious reasons. And yes, it is pretty cool to have instant email notifications. :) You can try snapping Netflix to the left or right side of the screen, but the video size might be smaller I'd assume. You can still switch around between apps from the App Switcher bar on the left and work on the Desktop as well.

Ok, try this. Go to Personalization from Control Panel, or real easily, go to the Desktop and pull up the Settings charm bar, and hit Personalization. On the bottom right of the window, hit Screen Saver. Theoretically, this might be your issue. A dialogue box will pop up, and in that, uncheck On resume, display logon screen. That should do it.

That is unchecked already :(. was the first thing I tried after turning off screen saver. Im stumped.

Hi,
I am the author of YouTube+ app and I saw this thread today. The issue you have reported has been fixed by the latest update (now available on store). The screen should stay on when you are watching a lengthy video. Do drop me an email if you face any other issue.

thanks!

I stumbled upon this post today and chose to sign up as I am having the same issue as the OP however it has nothing to do with the youtube app. I have triple checked every possible setting for auto lock (screen saver, power settings, ect), all are properly set however windows 8 still insists on locking after a certain amount of time. Oddly, the only time it will not auto lock is when I have Plex media center open and set as the active window...it will stay unlocked for days on end as long as i keep Plex open (which is a total pain). However, as soon as i close plex and give it a few minutes I am presented with the login screen where i have to supply my password. I have no screen saver enabled, the display is set to never turn off and the computer is set to never sleep or hibernate (which works fine). The only issue is this auto lock that i cant seem to get to the bottom of. I am a network admin by trade so stupid issues like this drive me nuts, hoping with a few more heads I can get to the bottom of it. Thanks in advance.

I'm no computer whiz! but i have been lookin for a way to disable this as well and i have sorted it if you head on over to control panel then from there open hardware and sound then finally power options on the left hand side it will say choose when to turn off display if you click that it will give you the option to turn off the sleep witch is know as auto lock.

Hi guys.

I had been same problem and solved it today by this tutorial:

Found a fix, under User Accounts, clicking reset security policies seems to have fixed the issue. Also, it fixed the issue of not being able to change the screensaver timeout. I haven't been able to track down the specific policy caused the problem in the first place, but this works for now.

I found it here:

That option to reset the security policies doesn't exist in Win 8 Pro.

That option exist in Windows 8 Pro x64 with Media Center. I do it and still no problem with auto lock.
Where is the setting? I don't see it where this thread says it is. No, I don't have WMC installed.
