    Hi Stefelz,

why would you use a dynamic disk? You do not need this.

Delete the existing Win 8 partition and create a new Basic one

    strange,

i did not have that problem installing Win8

Dynamic disks are slower, although some say faster, and give more problems.....have been there.

That will not work. If you want to create a new simple extended partition, you must only have a maximum of 3 primary partitions. So the win8 partition has to go, the win7 partition can be converted into a logical partition and then you have to reconvert the remaining dynamics into primaries.

The only free program I know that can do that is Partition Wizard bootable CD version 4.2 - the later free releases do not deal with dynamics, you would need the pro version.

As far as I can see those are your choices:
    1. Convert dynamic disk to basic as whs suggested with partition wizard. You can follow this tutorial (option 4) Windows 8 VHD - Create at Boot to Dual Boot with

    2. Trick Windows into installing into dynamic disk Devocalypse - Install Windows 7 on a Simple Dynamic Disk (Pro and Ultimate Only) (can be dangerous, so please make sure to backup!)

    3. Install Windows 8 into VHD. In my opinion this is your best choice, as it is relatively easier, safer and less destructive. You can follow this tutorial: Windows 8 VHD - Create at Boot to Dual Boot with

I hope this will help you.

Change a dynamic disk back to a basic disk: Storage Services; Local File Systems
Geez, Google the thing! heh. Back up all of these partitions. open up disk management (search for it in start). You can then delete the dynamic volume and create a basic one.
I would also recommend hiding all of those useless drive letters. Change them to H,J, etc. Move your REAL drives into the C, D, E etc. You can then REMOVE the drive letters for HP tools, recovery, etc so it does not make explorer so messed up.

    Duh - you're right.
I think BootItBareMetal can also do the necessary - but then I think I'd rather start again from scratch anyhow
