all videos keep freezing and the shutdown feature doesn't work
I recently installed windows 8 on my rig and I have the following problems
1) When I press shutdown, the screen dims, but the computer is still on. I have to do it manually and when it starts back up, it doesn't complain about improper shutdown.
2) All of my videos freeze. Whether it's flash based, Media player classic, Windows media players, etc. They freeze the whole program and I have to either use end task, or wait for several minutes.
I am running nVidia's latest drivers that are made for windows 8 (version 285.16)

Sounds like a codec problem... that is, if you're running video codecs that aren't native to Windows.
And as far as the shutdown thing goes, just use Alt+F4 from the desktop until that gets fixed.

Yeah, you can try things like the Klite Codec pack or the Community Codec pack, there are plenty out there.
If you don't want to download a codec pack, try using VLC or Splash Media Player, or something.
Na, the codecs work well in Win8 - unless you have a corruption. I would suggest a repair install or a reinstall. That may be the easiest route to take.
You seem to be lucky. Maybe you downloaded a different level than wecaan. With Codec packs and on the high seas you never know what is going to happen.
