    6.2? What Kernel # do you think Win8 will have


    Hey 8Forums,

    I was pondering to myself at the Kernel # that Win8 will have...I know this is early to talk about this but it is an intriguing subject...
    If they redo the kernel for Win8 than it might be 7.0!

    I meant the 6.2.****...like Windows 7 is 6.1.7600.16385, will it become 6.2?

    I dont think it will become 6.2.xx because i guess 6.2 will be for windows 7 service packs. So i guess windows 8 will have versions that will start from 8.xx

    The only reason I could think of for it remaining in the 6.x area is for application compatibility with Windows 7 and Windows Vista

    yeah it could be true but we cant ignore windows vista sp3 and windows 7 sp 1 and 2. (sometime in future).

    Actually Vista SP1 and SP2 was 6.0.6001 and 6.0.6002...following precedents than 7 would be 6.1.7601 and 6.1.7602

    I guess windows xp was build 2600 and then windows vista was build 6000. See the jump.
