Solved UAC Blocks Game Startup on W8.1

OK, so I've had this game for years and years.

The application Online.exe is required to start Game.exe and yet both are getting a UAC prompt, and I think this is causing the game to stop working before it can initialize. Periodically, I can get through this by accepting UAC and everything works, but other times, UAC comes up and the game never appears after accepting UAC.

Can somebody please tell me a workaround? I realize UAC is important for security purposes, and I don't want to disable it, just allow one (or two) programs as an exception.

Thanks.

You could check out this tutorial and see if it helps - Elevated Program Shortcut without UAC Prompt - Create. This one is for Windows 7, haven't checked to see if Brink created one for Windows 8.1 so...

BTW it would help if you specifically told us what the program/game is? Game.exe? Online.exe?

The game is Phantasy Star Online - Blue Burst http://www.phantasystaronline.net

I have the shortcut to the launcher (Online.exe) pinned to my tiles, but when I attempt to run the program, sometimes UAC blocks the launcher completely, other times, I get 8 or so launchers up on my screen at a time.

Occasionally, once I get the launcher to appear after trying to get it to work through UAC, I click "Start Game" on the launcher, and get a UAC prompt, and the game crashes...

I think that's a problem... What can I do?

This is an old idea (Vista, maybe?) but I seem to remember there was another way around UAC... Registry, maybe? I'm not remembering for sure. Let me know if you understand what I'm trying to find.

Actually I gave you a link to follow. If you don't want to look into that, there's nothing else I have to offer.

The other thing you could do is turn UAC off but its not something I would wholeheartedly recommend as UAC does serve a purpose in a good way. But... User Account Control (UAC) - Change Settings in Windows 8

BTW if you choose to ignore the suggestions given than you obviously don't want any help. And I say this because both times you failed to acknowledge the first link posted.

Later.

Solved!

I'm just trying to explore ideas, and I did have one particular option in mind, but apparently it's not what I thought. I'll try the link you suggested.
