Full Administrator or not?

Hi,

I play a game called MapleStory (Yes, it's "kiddish", but that doesn't matter. ;) ), and when I try to run it, I get an error that says: The instruction at 0xXXXXXXXX referenced memory at 0xXXXXXXXX. The memory could not be written."

I get this message only on my local administrator account, but I don't get that when I run it as user "Administrator".
Does Windows 8 have something that makes the local admin not a "full admin"?

Also, with the same game, in Windows 7 it used to have over 1GB of RAM in use (And it didn't lagg).
In Windows 8 it gets to a total of maximum average 370mb RAM usage, and it does make me lagg at some parts in the game.

Thanks in advance,
Casper.

(P.s. If this isn't in the right section of the forums, please do move it. :) )

Hello Casper, and welcome to Eight Forums.

It's the same in Windows 8 as is in Vista and Windows 7. Only the built-in Administrator account is elevated by default where it's not prompted by UAC.

You may need to use Run as administrator on the game while signed in to your local administrator account.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I am already running it as administrator, yet I get that message. (Also, UAC is turned off.)

And if I try to change the priority of the process it also gives me "Access denied" in taskmanager. This also happens when I'm logged in under the Administrator account.

FWIW, Maple Story has more troubles involving it than Lindsay Lohan on a bad day. That's all I really know about that game.

;o In Windows 7 it works pretty well tbh. =p Appart from the disconnects while changing channels (Because it's a private server =p).
It's just strange I get error that the memory can't be written. Or that I don't have access to change the priority of that process.

Cool! You're one of the lucky ones then. :) I just remember threads like this involving 7: [Guide] Maplestory on Windows 7

I think that's a very old version of MapleStory. ;) The current version(s) of MapleStory have an option to make it windowed. ^^ (It might even be pre-v60 that guide)
I remember using dxwnd to have it windowed. X'D

And maybe Nexon was smart enough to fix it somehow so it would work better with Windows 7. :)
