So many metro games crash, screen res or graphics driver issue?

Evidently there are some really awesome games in the metro store, but I wouldn't really know because they all either fail to load or BSOD. Notable exceptions: Pirates Love Daisies, which is great and doesn't crash my system, and Cut The Rope, ditto. Mah Jong runs and is an ok game.

Some games (Trump, and Carmen Sandiego) loaded before I figured out how to install my manufacturer's graphics driver, with Win8 running the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. MBDA failed to recognize my screen's native res of 1366/768, and set the res to 1024/768 (stretched). After updating the driver to Intel GMA 500 8.14.100.2030 both games will launch, but then stall out on the loading screen, eventually reverting back to metro/start but still trying to load in the background.

Other games (Hive Mind) launch and load, but then BSOD when you try to play.
Cut the rope runs but gave me a low memory warning then ran perfectly without any lag.

All in all, this is really a lot of app failures considering that these games are supposed to be optimized for tablets.

Hi,

You've said the magic term: BSOD

We will fix your machine easily for you. Please see the Crash And Debugging subforum. The top thread details what you have to do so we can fix it.

You can attach the zip requested to this thread here.

I had just done a disk cleanup, so I reran the app before grabbing the logs to force a BSOD
Thanks!

Let Intel's site scan and it will likely give you a new driver to install:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx?lang=eng

If not, try a Windows Update....if that too doesn't, then let me know....we'll make it happen.

Also a great idea to update the Bluetooth network driver:

Updating the graphics driver fail

Ok, so I ran the driver update utility and it told me that I have graphics driver 945gm. that's not what my computer says, so I ran the utility again and it told me that I have GMA500, which is what I thought I have. I ran it a third time, and it crashed IE10. I restarted the computer but the update utility continues to crash IE10.
The latest available driver for the GMA 500 and 32 bit Windows 7 is version 5.0.0.2030. The version that I have installed is 8.14.20.2030. When I try to install 5.0.0.2030 (by going into device manager, let me pick, have disk), I get an error that says that "the specified folder doesn't contain a compatible software driver for my device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed towork with windows for 32-bit systems. If I try to run the driver installer by clicking setup.exe, I get an error that says that the operating system is not supported.

Updating through windows update says that windows has determined the driver software for my device is up to date.

I'll work on updating the rest of those drivers.

Hey ya, just awoke from a nap. So here's what to do -

Device Manager - Right click video adapter - Properties | Details tab

Change dropdown to say hardware ids. Copy/paste the results here.

It's either one of two things you've got going on there. Either the wrong driver installed, or since it is the latest as you say, then one of those other drivers I've shown is interfering with its proper operation and causing it to crash. I think it is the wrong driver because it is bug checking 0xD1 which is power state, and it's not a memory corruption type of deal.

So we will focus our abilities on the actual video driver and if the proves unfruitful, the focus shifts to the others, even though the others have to be updated regardless.

Yeah, definitely GMA 500. I would also update the motherboard bios if there is an available one. The drivers are the highest priority though.

Which are you having trouble with finding at the moment?

At any time, you can post a new crash dump(s) and we can see where you are at with things...and then take it from there.

Ok, I've updated the Marvel, Realtek, and Synaptics drivers.
I don't know how to update the motherboard bios
I'll look for Bluetooth drivers

Shouldn't the graphics driver version 5.0.0.2030 run on my computer? I'm still confused about that.
I launched Hive Mind and it's still causing BSOD

Yes, it should run well, but there is another driver still interfering with its correct operation. You can review all I've said about the drivers and also post new crash dumps as I've also said, so that we can look at the system's progress.

Each of the driver issues has to be addressed until the system is "clean".

The latest bios should also be installed. You can visit the manufacturer's website for that.

Hi GMan,
So, I don't know how to find all those things to audate or remove them. I'm assuming the ones staring Bt are Bluetooth drivers? What if I revert to a generic driver?
sd8686 is the wifi adapter, right? I'll try reinstalling using device manager.

If I'm totally wrong, a little more detailed advice would be greatly appreciated. ;)

Just tried running the marvell driver you gave me from device manager. It launched but gave me an error message saying "The operation returned because the time out period expired".
Then it crashed the wifi, so I restarted and got a blue screen when win8 couldn't shut down properly.

Want another log file?

The problem is that the maker of your machine seems to have gone out of business, so they aren't offering drivers or whatnot.

For the Bluetooth: Right click in device manager. Properties. Details tab. Change dropdown to say hardware ids instead. Copy/paste results here.

For the sd8686: Right click, update driver software, browse my computer, let me pick, have disk, browse.

Then double click on the actual inf. Click ok then next. It should install.

Yes, you're welcome to post as many of the crash dumps as you want. More the better. Can see progress or anything new.
