Borderlands 2 And Left 4 Dead 2 Freeze The Same Way

Hello. I am Beatz. Now, if you've read the title, these two games seem to freeze the exact same way on my pc. Now, what happens, you ask? Well, first, I double click on either one of these games:

Borderlands 2:
I click "Play" on the Mini menu. Then, it loads for a second and stops. So I wait there, for 5 minutes. After it looks like it loaded up, I got through all the splash animations. So, once I'm done, I pressed a key. Now, after it detects my DLC (Got the GOTY edition on Steam), it freezes on "Downloading Updates".

Left 4 Dead 2:

I double click on it, loads for a second, then stops. After five minutes, it loads up and freezes on the first "loading" screen after the cinematic.

Now, I've tried reinstalling the games, I've tried chkdsk /f, I've upgraded my video/audio drivers, reinstalled the direct X updates, have all the right programs needed to run them, have more than min. specs, ran it in compatibility mode and even tried to restore a point. But, that point I wanted to load to doesn't exist anymore.

Please help, Beatz :(
(P.S.: I've got my DxDaig and Msinfo in the attachments)
(P.P.S: Ms info won't work :()

I don't if AMD has a 'clean install' procedure for video drivers, but I'm a HUGE proponent of completely uninstalling your video drivers, including all files. Then let Windows install the default drivers and then install the fresh copy of your cards current drivers.

NVidia even has a built-in 'clean install' checkbox during their driver installation program. It has help a LOT of people to refresh their drivers this way.

I have both of these running flawlessly on Steam. But I have an NVidia GTX 580.

All you had/have to do is go to...

- Programs and Features,
- click Catalyst Install Manager, and uninstall the old drivers,
- reboot,
- install the new drivers,
- reboot (even if not told to do so), and all should be good.

BTW are these the Steam versions of the games?

Anyway I played Borderlands all the way through on my Win 8.1 machine without issue. Point... there are no compatibility issues with the game and OS. Don't have L4D2 but I'm 99.999 percent sure there shouldn't be an compatibility issue with that game either.

Oh... and most importantly... we need system specs. It's near impossible troubleshooting game issues without them.

Yes, they are steam versions. Didn't I hint at that in my original post? If I didn't, well, here it is. I'm hoping that you guys could fix it, cause hell, i've went to 2 different websites and all they've done is A: Nothing or B:Make my computer do weird stuff and nothing

In addition, I also linked to my troubleshooting guide in my initial post to you. Suggest you look through it to see if anything there can help - like updating your DirectX files and drivers.

I know you want a quick fix, but troubleshooting game issues isn't a quick answer. It's time consuming and a lot of trial and error. Sorry.

With that, the info you supplied in those files indicate this is a laptop you're on?

Thanks.

Yep.

I went through your list last night. Pretty good read, but it didn't really help me. You see, most, if not, all of this stuff was told to me already, yet didn't work. So yeah, here are my PC specs. Also, I'm not using a laptop, I'm using a tower. :sleepy:

Well I'm not sure what to say now, but if you read my guide, you would have seen a link for troubleshooting Steam games. Suggest you give it a look through.

You also might have to look at your hardware. Is it really strong enough for these games? And at what settings?

Well...

First of all, for my issue with Borderlands 2, Steam just lead me back to 2K. I've already been through with them and nothing I've tried for them worked. But I'm currently contacting steam support for Left 4 Dead 2.

(P.S: My computer can support the two of these games. Left 4 Dead 2 should be a breeze and Borderlands 2 maybe be a little bit more difficult, but its fine.)

Am I reading your system specs correctly? Your display is an LCDTV and 421 X 800 pixels? That can't be right. Windows 8 wouldn't run with that resolution let alone games.

If you are using an LCDTV as your main display, I'm assuming you are connecting it up via HDMI?

Seriously, how can I solve this issue? If I knew what was causing the issue, I'd fix it in a heartbeat. But nothing has worked! People have been giving me the same answers to this problem, like updating my drivers, but the games don't work! In fact, I've went to 4 sites now about this issue. But nope, I can't even find out what the problem was.

I used to have a problem with BL2, now it works perfectly even with using modded weapons through Gibbed. All I did was right click and verify the game through Steam - perhaps that'll help your issue.

Forget Speccy. What does it say when you right-click on the desktop and view Screen Resolution? Does it recognize your monitor and resolution correctly?

Then you have to see if BL2 and Left 4 Dead 2 are set to match your native resolution.

I don't know if it is in synus21's guide, but have you tried to 'Delete Local Content' from Steam and then reinstall? Steam will download the game all over again.

But there is a also an option to verify the integrity of the game's files. Just right-click on the game and select Properties from the end of the list. Once the windows pops open, choose the 'Local Files' tab, then from that tab, choose the 'Verify the Integrity of Game Cache'.

Couldn't hurt!!!!
