Solved Will Amnesia: The Dark Descent work on Windows 8?

Hi again, been a long time since I've posted on here, but my question this time is will Amnesia: The Dark Descent work on Windows 8. I checked quite a few websites, with one saying Win8 is not officially supported, and the Steam Forums with some other peoples experiences. This is kind of a similar problem I had with VBox, except it's not as fatal since Amnesia won't mess up my OS. These forums are really helpful when it comes to problems, and as usual, I will be forever grateful

Don't have the game so I can't specifically say, but as I gamer myself, generally speaking, if the game runs on 7 it'll run on 8. Since moving to Windows 8 I've had no issues with games or game performance. I've also got Steam based as well as Origin based games and they all run pretty fine thus far.

All I can say is that seeing that Amnesia isn't that old of a game I think it should work on Windows 8/8.1 just fine... provided you have all the usual stuff updated - drivers, patches, etc...

Good luck.

This is all I can say really. I saw this info on systemrequirementslab.com, but everything else but the OS seems to have a green compatible check mark.

I would just use that for reference, not the gospel.

And what you should actually be looking at is the system specs for the game... aside from the OS. Again, all I can go by is experience - Generally speaking if a game works on 7, it'll work on 8, especially if it's relatively new. Amnesia came out in 2010 so it should play.

With that, I really think you ought to look towards the game's forum as they are the best to say. Honestly I'd be more worried about your system specs, than the OS. If you've got the specs to run the game, you're probably good.

If you've not bought the game... it doesn't hurt to make sure. If you do have it, the only way to tell is to try it.

Peace

Thanks for the help. I'll have a look on some Amnesia forums to check, but if I can't find anything, I'll go with your experience since you seem to know what you're talking about

[QUICK EDIT] - Amnesia: The Dark Descent will not run on windows 8 :: Amnesia: The Dark Descent General Discussions this website gives the good and bad side of running the game on windows 8, and some people say it works others say it doesn't, but I guess, it's the hardware that's really what I'm supposed to know about more than anything. Also, I have got a lot of gaming experience, having recorded Minecraft, Slender and other games on my YouTube channel, and I also understand the concepts of computers and stuff, but Win8 is quite new, and still needs some getting used to, but I have got a gaming laptop (sorta) so as I should think about it, it's more hardware than software that'll change gaming performance. I have had quite a bit of messed up gaming experience with and old dodgy computer so I know what it's like to have a bad game experience. I'll try the game soon and see if it works. Fingers crossed that it will work though

Based on the link you provided I'll have to say while some are having problems, others are saying the game runs fine for them under Windows 8. I've also provided some other links that says the game is compatible, including a Microsoft link saying the game is compatible.

- Does this work with Windows 8? :: Amnesia: The Dark Descent General Discussions

- Windows 8 compatibility for Amnesia: The Dark Descent version 1

You could also try the demo.... Amnesia: The Dark Descent to see if it works.

If you have any issues with the demo have a look at my guide here: Tips on Troubleshooting Game Issues - Windows 7 Help Forums

And yes, I'm pretty sure the game works just fine under 8, and if not, it'll stem from the more traditional issues other than OS - drivers, patches, hardware.

Again, I've not run into any gaming issues with my games 8 my newly built Win 8 desktop machine. See my system specs.

With the hardware, just like the image I posted before, the hardware is perfectly fine, no need to worry. I have a very great laptop, perfect to run it, it's jut the windows 8 thing that I worry mostly with some things, have been seeing other forums and other player experiences. That said, I guess hardware over software, plus since I have steam, I'll download the demo just to see if my laptop is capable. Amnesia A Machine for Pigs is officially supported, so if Dark Descent works the Machine for Pigs will for sure. As I have steam I'll just download the demo, and if the demo works, then Amnesia have won another customer

Well as I said, download the demo and go from there.

Also, be aware that laptops aren't traditionally a great platform for gaming so...

Good luck.

Demo works fine. Literally no lag and no crashes

With your specks popeye, other than you having Windows 8.1 and a slightly better CPU and screen res, your laptop is virtually the same as mine, so I'll probably get the full version quite soon, and hope to make videos for YouTube on Amnesia. Thanks for the help
