Red Faction Guerilla crash

Every time I try to play red faction guerrilla it just simply crashes with a visual c++ runtime error... (non specific)
The recommended settings are xp sp3 compatibility mode, which just doesn't launch...

Any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions?

Interestingly enough, a modified version of the launcher (illegitimate) allows me to play the game (this then cancels the ability to sign into GFWL though, as the modified file is not meant to use the feature...)

Are you using the x86, or x64 version of Windows 8? Also, your system specs are not complete. That would help us a lot if you could fill those in.

Well I uninstalled every C++ redistributable and reinstalled 2010,2008,2005 and express (in that order) and I still get the error.
I then ran sfc /scannow just for giggles...
Not a thing as changed.
I'm also receiving a runtime error with a game but that one does not provide me a specific error code (thread posted in gaming forum)
I'm perplexed.
A friend of mine does not receive this error, and a laptop I had 8 installed on briefly did not recieve this error either, so it seems especially anomalous...

Tried that while trying to fix another issue...

Interesting development! I had the same issue with a version of Monday Night Combat I was "trying out" before I buy it and to fix it I just had to delete a specific .ini file....
Course RF:G doesn't have much in terms of inis but it does seem to imply some kind of bad configuration somewhere...
Tried deleting my options from my documents but that did nothing...
