Hi, I was playing minecraft feed the beast, with a smooth 60fps when I had run windows 7. After upgrading to 8.1 It doesn't go passed literally 4 FPs with graphics turned down. I have no idea what's wrong, I have all the correct drivers, and correct java. It's an 8.1 issue. My specs are..
Asus K35TK
AMD A6-3420M APU with Radeon 6520G, 1.5ghz auto over clock to 2.4 when gaming. 4 cores
AMD Radeon 7670M 1gb (crossfire enabled)
6gb ram.
Please and thanks for the help :)

I do not play minecraft, but will add this until someone who has can help.
How are your temps. both cpu and gpu? Maybe try lowering your OC to try and help.
Have you tried it with w7 compatibility mode?

Thanks for the reply, my temperatures are fine. My APU is designed to automatically over clock while playing. But I lock it to 1.5, than over clock to 2.4 when playing more intense games with overdrive. I actually haven't over clocked since windows 8.1 yet. But no I haven't tried compatibility mode. A buddy of mine said 7 combatibility mode is useless, but I'll give it a shot ! Thanks for the tips though, I'll keep and eye on my temp and try compatibility, than reply again letting you know if it helped

I have the same CPU, it doesn't auto overclock, it Turbo's up to 2.4 but only on 1 or 2 cores at a time, I have mine set to 2.1ghz standard so it never runs at 1.5ghz max, it tones down to like 400mhz when idle and sits at 2ghz on all 4 cores.

These are the system requirements for Minecraft. Hope this helps

Minimum Requirements:

  • CPU: Intel Pentium D or AMD Athlon 64 (K8) 2.6 GHz
  • RAM: 2GB
  • GPU (Integrated): Intel HD Graphics or AMD (formerly ATI) Radeon HD Graphics with OpenGL 2.1
  • GPU (Discrete): Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT or AMD Radeon HD 2400 with OpenGL 3.1
  • HDD: At least 200MB for Game Core and Other Files
  • Java 6 Release 45
Recommended Requirements:

  • CPU: Intel Core i3 or AMD Athlon II (K10) 2.8 GHz
  • RAM: 4GB
  • GPU: GeForce 2xx Series or AMD Radeon HD 5xxx Series (Excluding Integrated Chipsets) with OpenGL 3.3
  • HDD: 1GB
  • Latest release of Java 7 from java.com

I'm not 100% sure if this will help to be honest but it's worth a try

{EDIT} - Also just a quick tip, I would recommend checking out Can You RUN It | Can I run that game | Game system requirements to see if your computer can run Minecraft

I have MineCraft and do not have the same problem as you. IT is NOT a Windows 8.1, Windows 7, MAC OS issue.

1.The game is not depended on the OS you are using. so Don't Bother with compatibility mode since that will not help. The game does not use anything in Win32 or winrt or Direct X.

The game MineCraft depends on JAVA. So that means you should check if you have the latest version of Java from:
Java Downloads for All Operating Systems

Download both 32-bit and the 64 bit Java. The game should use the 64 bit one once installed.

2.The second thing Minecraft depends on is your Graphics driver specifically the Open GL. Open GL is not provided by Windows (Direct x is the interface to Graphics) so it is Graphic Card drivers provide that support. If you don't install the graphics driver from the manufacturer you run into the problem.

If you upgraded try uninstalling the driver and downloading a driver specifically for Windows 8.1.

Lastly like others of said check your Temperatures. You might need to clean the dust out of your PC.
