Just thought I'd let people know that those of you who had issues running Starcraft 1 on Windows 7, it seems to run absolutely perfectly in Windows 8 without all the issues and workarounds.

Just had to share.

Thank you for your time and enjoy the internet.

A friend of mine has the same issue with his sound drivers, so I'm offering to lend him a sound card I have lying around... Dunno if it will work in 8 but I introduced him to 8 so I might as well help him out

I was originally just using the generic drivers that come by default but when I installed the actual Windows 7 x86 realtek drivers it didn't fix it either so I'm not sure. I might have a Sound Blaster Live! card I can use but all the other sound cards I have are really old I don't know if they even have native XP drivers.

I found a solution :) If you download the iccup launcher iCCup — Files / Anti-Hack_Launcherr

And run starcraft using the launcher the sound will work :), no need for a separate sound card or vm for broodwar then.

you need to configure your video card to scale broodwar to full screen instead of displaying it in actual size of 640x480.

I have no idea what video card you have so I can't tell you what the setting is but just look for the intel/amd/nvidia graphics applet in the control panel and find something to do with scaling to full screen but keeping the aspect ratio

Thanks for your quick reply.
I am using the acer w510 tablet PC running a built in graphic card on intel z2760 processor. And the intel graphic software doesn't have any options for scaling. And I have tried to run it with windows XP compatibility mode and still no hope... :(((

two months late but I'll see if i can think of something.

So in intel gfx under media-> image scaling -> and im not sure what next since I just happen to have a screenshot of this on my desktop

The other option is to lower your desktop resolution to 640x480 or run the game in 640x480 compatability mode.
Or download the iccup launcher and use window mode and then you can make it double normal size.

Hello guys, I have Windows 8 in my new laptop, but when I finished the first mission of the campaign the following message appeared: "The instruction at 0x004bd811 referenced memory at 0x00000001. The memory could not be read.", after that the game shuts down.
Is there any way to solve this problem and be able to play the original StarCraft on my new laptop?
