Everytime I play games like Gary's Mod counter strike source and team fortress 2 I get the most annoying of frame skips in battle it might have something to do with a sound card but I am not sure please help.

Lower graphics settings in the game, especially AA level and Anisotropic filtering. The game is just working too hard for the hardware to handle.

If the skips are only happening when there is a lot of action, that will help it.

It's hard to tell if there is action for some games like gary's mod because I play trouble in terrorist town but I'll do that and see what happens.

Ok, I just wanted to check on specs to make sure the machine is gaming worthy. Seems the specs are decent and well for it, yes.

Generic advice is to uninstall your antivirus then use the tool to remove it too. Set Windows Firewall and Windows Defender to Automatic. Download/install all latest drivers from HP for your model.

See how that goes. If still no good, well then at least you completed the first step of troubleshooting. We can look further then, if we need.

Are we talking online gaming here? Could be your network connection. That machine should have no problems with the games themselves.

Scratch that it could be a mate of mine explained how an ethernet cable could help with it and he was talking about how ping and crap isn't an example of internet quality so I'll try that when my internet is a bit better

A high ping increases the load on your computer and you can lag with a great system if your ping is terrible. For example in L4D2, when my ping goes beyond a certain number, usually 400 ms, the game stutters and skips frames everywhere because it's not getting the information fast enough. I play with mobile broadband and although both are bad, the USB stick has a better ping rate than a wireless device. My normal is 100-120ms, which is bad but playable with online games. What's your ping?

If your internet's consistently bad enough to cause lag in every cut scene battle without exception then it might be difficult to ever play without issues online.
