Solved IL 2 sturmovic 1946

can this game be played in windows 8? when uploading the game from the DVD it said it had DIRECTX 9 which was not compatible with windows 8. will this game work with an up grade of DIRECTX 9? and if so, does anybody know where to go to get this upgrade?

looks like to windows XP and2000 only. or that is what it said. I have windows 8
