Flight Simulator X in Windows 8

I installed FSX on my Windows 8 Developers Preview to see if it would work. When trying to open FSX after the installation, the splashscreen would appear and a few seconds later the infamous "Microsoft Flight Simulator has stopped working" message would appear.

I went through the event log and the faulting module seems to be kernelbase.dll, which explains that FSX is not compatible with windows 8 out of the box. Has anyone managed to find a workaround for this?

I had this problem and found a site on utube with a possible solution so I tried it out and so far fsx has not crashed.
Got to robbonline.se/ and download the UlAutomationCore.dll and follow his instructions.

I have no problems running Flight SimulatorX Deluxe in Windows 8 Pro.

1) Just install Flight SimulatorX directly to Drive C:/Flight Simulator
X, do not install to Program Files 64 or 32. No need to set
compatibility settings.
2) For stability do not install FSX Service Pack 1 and Service Pack 2.
For me the service packs causes the game to crash easily.

It runs beautifully for me.

I too have just acquired 8.1 Pro & cannot get very far in FS Deluxe. The program keeps crashing, usually when I try to change from the default plane. Getting very frustrated.

Does your computer have a good amount of memory? Maybe it just can't handle Flight Sim. I have it on mine and it takes up A LOT of GB. So make sure you have enough space for it.
