Hi forum, this is my first post-

So I was trying to install Star Trek Elite Force and when I tried to it said that this app is incompatible with your PC. I have no idea what to do. :/ If you have to run it in a compatibility mode can you please tell me which. I saw one post that was regarding about running this game in Win7 but I have Win8. It says that you have to run it in Win2000 compatibility mode but I don't see it in Win8.

My specs-

Windows 8
Intel Core i5-3210M clocked @ 2.5GHz with turbo boost up to 3.1GHz
Intel 4000 with up to 1760mb dynamic video memory
8GB DDR3 RAM
1 Terabyte HDD

(It's a laptop - Acer Aspire v3-571)

Please help I really want to play this game and sorry if I posted this in the wrong section.

Any suggestions are appreciated :)

Success!! Running Star Trek Elite Force on Windows 8.. easy!! Youll slap yourself for not thinking of it...

Long story short....

Make a directory on your Harddisk called EliteForce

copy cd contents of the CD onto the new EliteForce folder

create shortcuts of STVOY and STVOYHM from the setup folder onto your desktop or wherever

and double click! Done!

No compatibility or run as admin required.. that simple...

One warning, dont adjust the brightness in the game if you even touch it and try to bring it back, youll have to reset it to default and retune all of your other video settings... DONT TOUCH BRIGHTNESS its plenty bright..

ENJOY!! Im anxious to start playing again....

Brooklyn Baby!!

This is strange, there was another thread that I had that explained how to restore the video if adjusted incorrectly and now its gone..

However I still have the game installed and this is what you need to do..

Go to the folder on your harddrive that you copied the game to and delete these files to restore default video/game settings.

[your game dir]\setup\baseEF\efconfig.cfg

[your gamer dir]\setup\baseEF\hmconfig.cfg

once in the game dont mess with the brightness, itll go superdim afterwards..

everything else is adjustable..

Good solution for some people

I don't want to hijack your thread, but I have found the best solution for me was to simply copy the full installation of Elite Force, complete with the expansion pack, from my old computer running on XP. I put it onto a flash drive and just copied it over to the new Windows 8 machine. No registry changes were necessary, although I set it to run in XP service pack 3 compatability mode as administrator once it was on the new machine. I even have my old saved games transferred intact and working on Windows 8. Best of all, I have Captain Proton and Virtual Voyager as well as the main game.

I found this solution on a Quake 3 forum which has more active discussions than Elite Force. Both run on the same Quake engine and have identical file systems. I had spent a long time searching for solutions to playing the game with expansion pack, so for anyone with access to a working installation on a 32 bit system, this is the simplest way to try.

Hi Guys. Am having an issue with this game as well. I start the game and it is all fine until i get to the menu. The starting movies play fine and then there is 1 or 2 pixels of the menu off to the side and the rest is that last image that was on the screen. Please help. Have been wanting to play this game again for ages. I have a duel boot windows vista and 7 ultimate.

Sounds as though something became corrupted during installation. I had a similar problem with Mass Effect 2. I just uninstalled the game completely, then reinstalled. Irritating, because it took a whole evening, but it worked fine the second time. My only other suggestions are to make sure your video card drivers are up to date and to try different compatability modes. Maybe check you have set the correct resolution for your screen and everything else is default to begin with -- if it works, you can change to your own preferences one by one to see which setting is causing the problem. I changed the fov on mine in the config. file, which improved playing on my 17:9 screen; took away the tunnel vision effect.

You should have fewer problems if you can install it on Vista. I have no experience with Windows 7; went straight from XP to 8, but again, compatability issues should be easier to solve with earlier versions.

It may seem odd that people find some solutions work for them and others don't, even though they're all using the same os. but I think the video cards are key. So many different cards, so many drivers and two manufacturers. You could try looking for help on your card's forums if my suggestions don't work. I also found Quake 3 forums very informative for Elite Force problems -- both games use the same engine, so same solutions apply.

Hope you get the game working with a fresh installation. It's a great old favourite.

I recently tried to install it on Windows 10 v2004, nothing worked. But gathering infos from around the web I finally made it. I have updated installation infos on this webpage: Star Trek: Voyager - Elite Force - PCGamingWiki PCGW - bugs, fixes, crashes, mods, guides and improvements for every PC game

Hope it helps!
Hello,

I have the same problem on windows 10 version 1909. Every time i click on the set up(cd directory) icon it says "set up has detected an installation of STEF2 on this system". I run task manager , click details, click right click setup, then analyze chain. It shows no other processes. Any idea?

Hi,

no sorry.
But I ran into another problem after successful installation.
After the first fight in the loading dock when you have to follow Tuvok the game jumps back into the main menu. So it's unplayable for me :(
