Fix for NFS Hot Pursuit on Windows 8?

I read on a Steam forum that Need for Speed Hot Pursuit does not support Windows 8 and those that try to run it can't get the game to start and they say no error message is displayed. Well when I install NFS Hot Pursuit from my physical copy of the game it does not start but I do get an error and it is the "d3dx9_42 dll is missing" error. Is there a fix for NFS Hot Pursuit to get it running on Windows 8?

If your directx 9 is updated, try to copy that file from dx installation to your nfs folder, where its executable is. Dont know if it will work, but i remember doing that for some other old games to fix similiar errors.

I have both the Steam and Origin versions of NFSHP (I bought it on Steam, but many ppl dont realize that alot of EA's game codes on Steam can also be registered on Origin). I got no such error when launching and the game plays fine. I'm pretty sure it's compatible with Windows 8. If it's not working for you then it's probably down to your DirectX.

I was going to test it on my windows 8 system, but I past my activation limit. and EA is giving me the run around with extending the limit...saying I have to call there specialist, blah blah

@ dskiller: Is it the Steam or Origin version? If Steam, right-click on the game and get your CD Key, then install Origin and register the code within the Origin client. It might just let you play without throwing up any activation crap. Just make sure you uninstall the Steam version first, Origin will still need to redownload it.
