Facebook Games Running Slow

Hi All,

I have recently purchased a new HP Pavillion laptop that has Windows 8 on it. Ever since I have been using it, I have noticed that all the games I play on Facebook run extremely slow. I mainly use Google Chrome, but have tried to see if other internet browsers have the same problem and they all run slow. I've checked to make sure that java, flash player and even shockwave are all up to date.

Is anyone able to help? Its starting to get really annoying.

Thanks :)

Hello k3lz1990,

Are you having any other problems with your new laptop? If not, I would check with others that play Facebook Games to see if they are having similar problems. You might also want to check your internet download and upload speeds and compare them with your Facebook counterparts as well. You can do an internet speed test here for reference:

Speakeasy Speed Test

Good luck.

Hi norepli

From what I can tell its just Facebook games. Haven't tried others as yet. I've checked it against my partners laptop (as we like to verse each other on the games we play) and his runs perfectly fine. His system runs Windows 7 though and not 8.

Thanks for the link, will check that out when I get home.

Sounds like a good place to start! BTW, could you have your partner do a speed test as well and compare your results with his/her results too?

I would say that it's FB-Server-related. I had this plenty times at my place as well. To use the same i-net-connection like your partner, doesn't mean that you are connecting to the same FB-Server, as it depends on which Server your profile got created as well and other things like cookies etc.

Here are as an example some FB-IP's: Click

So, are you using the same connection as your partner? If so, I missed that part. Anyway, did your partner do a speed test as well? If so, how does his/her results compare with yours?

We are both connected to the same wireless modem. His speed test was the same as mine

I still can't find where that was made clear... anyway, so you are both going wireless; yes? If so, then it could be a Win 8 driver issue; however, assuming you are going to respond with "everything is up to date", I would do a test where you try to play the Facebook games with a direct ethernet connection to your router and let your partner continue to play wireless to see what happens.

Yes we are both running wireless. I will try using it with an ethernet cable and see if that makes any difference

We are both connected via Gigabit-Switch to our Router (all wired) and use therefore the same I-Net-Connection. The cable length are pretty much equal as we have our machines beside each other. We both use Intel-NIC's and I even gave my wife the good PCIe-Intel-NIC I bought. Our I-Net-Speed is fine for both of us (ADSL2+ with ~15MBit/s down | ~1MBit/s up), even if Facebook is playing up. Sometimes FB is slow for both and sometimes only for one of us.

Not every FB-Account or every FB-Game-(Account)Access ends up on the same server.

:)

Who are you TONSCHUH? Are you the actual "partner?" If so, then your response conflicts with your other partner who claims to be wireless and your statement of being slow for each other at times is very confusing too! So, rather than deal with the confusion, I will bow out and (hopefully) someone else can unravel this thread and get to the real issue for you and your partner. Good luck.

I only tried to explain that the problem of the Thread-Starter is very common, as it happens to me and my wife as well. I doubt that it will make a (big) difference for the Thread-Starter, to change from wireless to wired, even that wireless connections are always not as good as wired ones. The Thread-Starter didn't mention that he has issues in general with his I-Net-Connection, so I think we can assume that there should be everything fine, especially as his speed-test results are more then enough for playing Facebook-Games.

He should maybe ping / tracert the connection to facebook, to see where the delay is happening.

:)

I honestly don't see how you can apply those assumptions to this thread. Just because "you don't think" that changing to wired might make a difference, why don't you just let the troubleshooting progress and then you could chime in with "I could have told you that"; however, if you read this thread thoroughly, you would have been able to understand that the OP did not have a problem running Windows 7 but now does have a problem running Windows 8 (both wireless). Now, there is a distinct possibility that their router may need a firmware update and/or there is something not right with the drivers for her Win 7/8 compatible hardware AND I'm trying to get there by taking one troubleshooting step at a time. However, because of you advanced knowledge of the network in question, I am inviting you to take over because I am bowing out due to the confusion your posts have introduced into this troubleshooting process. Please understand that I am not trying to be mean but the problem was made very clear from the onset (works on Win 7 but not on Win 8) and all of your assumptions are basically ignoring that possibility.

Ok, I let you troubleshoot with her.

PS:

I had this under Windows-7 as well. Should have mentioned it.

PPS:

Windows-8 has a better driver support straight out of the box then Windows-7.

PPPS:

She still didn't mention that her Internet is playing up in general, so you are guessing as well. Her speed-test looks good to me, but it doesn't tell us if there are fluctuating pings to Facebook / Zynga or even to the DNS-Servers etc. We also don't know something about the Signal-Strenght between PC and Router. To run some ping and tracery test and switching the wlan channels at the PCs and Router could help as well.

PPPPS:

If you use for an example "ping www.facebook.com -t" or "ping Zynga | Play free online games with friends -t" or "ping 184.75.160.52 -t" or whatever IP you are connected to, then you are able to see if there are large up's and down's or even time-out's.

If you get somewhere on your Tracert-Route strange Ping-Times or time-out's, then just ping this hop via "ping IP-Address -t" for awhile and see if the Ping-Times stay similar or if they go up and down all the time in large numbers or even time-out.

You could try out another IP-Address from Facebook / Zynga out of their IP-Range, to see if it improve things. Therefore just type the IP-Address into your Browser-Field, where you would normally put the "www.blabla.com".

You could do a Ping-Test via Pingtest.net as well, to see how your connection in general performs.

Some User's have / had Problems with their I-Net under Windows-8, which was mainly driver-related as @norepli already mentioned, but in most cases there was a problem with the I-Net-Speed in general, which seems not to apply to your problem, as ~7 MBit/s are more then enough speed to play Facebook / Zynga-Games, if there is not somewhere a QoS-Setting applied to prefer your partner's computer, when you are both connected at the same time.
