Hello all, I am seriously crash coursing through windows 8 right now, and cant seem to find many useful tutorials specific to all the glory that is windows 8.

I literally just upgraded my laptop, maybe a lil to excessively, darn pretty lights... so with it comes new 8... it seems like all the aps on the main screen work, but I cant get some of the game aps to work. I did the whole xbox set up thing, and downloaded/bought one of their games... and tried few free app games. maybe out of 4 of the free ones work, and the one I actually paid for didn't.

When I click on the app button thing, the splash screen pops up for good 2 seconds, then back to the tile start page. I tried to find the .exe, but cant... and like I said I tested all the other icons and they seem to be good to go.

Not sure what else to do, help!!

(also, sorry if I am using the wrong terms, still trying to figure out the names of things on here as well :)

To shut down open the charm bar on the right hand side click settings and you'll see the power button, annoyed the hell out of me so I installed Classic shell which gives you the old school start button. As for the apps seems to be a problem if you upgrade or install over Windows 7, I ended up having to do a clean install to get it to work, luckily all my important stuff was on another partition. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I put a shutdown tile on my start screen. also put a shutdown shortcut on my desktop. yeah, nestling the shutdown/restart in the settings section is not too smart.

Ok, will look for that shut down. as for 8, I didn't upgrade it, it came with the laptop... so don't think reinstalling is an option
