I'm sure you're running on the latest game patch... I can't guarantee that this will work, but if you haven't yet, try right clicking the game shortcut, clicking Compatibility and selecting Windows 7 or XP SP3 mode. I don't recall this having fixed any issues that I've ever encountered but it's worth a try.

Many thanks. Correct I am using the latest patch and tried running it as Vista, 7, XP but still the same. Does Windows 8 support old games (EE1 is from 2002 I think)?.

EDIT: I believe that it's fixed sort of by reinstalling, still slow, but at least it doesn't crash or freeze anymore don't know if I should tag this with Solved lol.

I'm surprised that it actually runs. When Borderlands 2 first came out, it didn't run in Windows 8 (it'd just crash on startup). Now I'm only guessing here, but it's possible that it's not officially "supported" on Windows 8. That may account for the slowness of the game. I even doubt that there may be a compatibility patch for that game. I honestly don't know what else I can suggest other than compatibility mode.

Well, did some searching and Empire Earth is not supported on Windows 8, that much I already suspected. You will need to manually edit the registry. You need to open "Run" (can do it by pressing the "Start" keyboard key and then "R"), type "regedit" and then click "Ok".

Navigate to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SSSI\Empire Earth\Wait for VSync" and change it to "0" (do this by double clicking the entry).

Then navigate to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SSSI\Empire Earth\Rasterizer Name" and change it to "Direct3D Hardware TnL" (similar to how you did with VSync).

What do you mean by a "modded" .exe file?

i could not get to wait for vsync rasterize name but i could get to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SSSI\Empire Earth\

Well, If you are facing any problem in Win8 just delete those 2 files from the game directory (DX7HRDisplay.dll) & (DX7HRTnLDisplay.dll) and it will take the settings of your system's directx..Good Luck

Try it and let me know

Hmm the that seems to be a hardware issue (video card) though I would try to reinstall the drivers. Does it happen on other games?

I have original EE1 and I used to play it under XP. Now under W7 it doesn't work. I tried to update it somehow but with no results. You said that you used to play it under W7. Can you help me? I love EE1 and I think it's the best of EE's.
Thanks
