I like to play solitaire and stuff like that while listening to some tunes, but i cant for the life of me turn off the sound of the solitaire while im listening to music. This may be really simple fix but if anyone could help it would be appreciated.

are you talking about the standard Microsoft solitaire suite in Windows 8? there's separate volume controls for music and sound in the settings.

but mine doesn't have any music (at least when playing spider solitaire).

Click on the games tile (Solitaire), then press Win key (the one with the Microsoft Logo) + C, click Settings, than Game Options.

just so you can apply the instructions to any application... the charms bar is contextual. so its meaning depends on the app that is open. so if the solitaire app is open, the settings will refer to the solitaire app. if the mail app is open, the settings will refer to the mail app. same thing for anything in the charms bar. if the wikipedia app is open, the search will search wikipedia. if the xbox music app is open, the search will search xbox music and your music folders.

I know this problem is ticked as solved, but even after I turn the sound off as low as it goes on solitaire settings after a short time I still get sounds and the only way I can stop it is to turn down my general sound settings, this is annoying as when I skype or want to listen to something else I have to remember to turn the sound up before I start. This post says the settings apply to the different apps so why is this happening?

I apparently have a different set up to dirtyvu, but the end result is the same. I have "Microsoft Solitaire Collection" in my (modern) start and, as said, it is under the Games section. Selecting Klondike, and then sweeping to the right, gives me the Charms bar which, as dirtyvu stated, is now associated with the App being used. As under:
If I wind back both music and sound, I hear nothing from Klondike.

Use several different computers during a day, so specs are irrelevant.
well when I deselect all the settings when on the solitaire app, there is no sound until near the end of the game and its starts depending how loud I have my general start sound, ie, a noise every time I make a move till the game is finishedsolitaire.jpg
