For as long as I can remember I have used Steam, It has always been set-up to start up when my PC does.
Since upgrading to Windows 8 (from Win7) I have to manually start Steam, I have checked all options within Steam, nothing has changed. It still says it will start-up when the PC does.

I don't know how to fix this any ideas?

My husband who is running the exact same setup as me does not have this problem. My daughter who was running WinXP until we upgraded her to Win8 also has the same problem as me.

Hi have you tried to disable it from start up through steam settings, restart computer and then re-enable steam to start up automatically and checked of that works?

If this doesn't work try this.. Run task manager (if you don't know how to do this just google 'windows 8 task manager', and click file>Run .. When the dialogue opens type into the text box "msconfig" and press enter.

This will launch a windows utility which lets you edit start up options. Now you should have a number of boot options such as "normal", "diagnostic" and "safe mode" or something to that effect. Select diagnostic, and restart your computer. Then open msconfig again from the task manager and click normal startup. Reboot again. Does this solve your problem?

Hi Jay, thanks for your reply. I tried all the things you suggested and still steam does not start on start-up. Even did a re-install of Steam yesterday to try it :(

Hi

In that case you may have to wait for an update from steam! If I can think of anything else I will post it

I had the same problem until yesterday. Are you starting Steam in Administrator mode? I did, and when I turned it off and went back to normal mode Steam started normally with start-up. Might be worth checking out on your system too.

Let me know if it works!

Hi Jaggedrain, thanks for your reply.

My brother-in-law was also having this problem, after updating his bios to fix another unrelated problem, it went away and steam worked normally again. I did the same and hey presto, mine is now working again!

So I am unsure if Windows eight caused the problem. I can say that steam stopped working for me the day i installed Windows eight, coincidence? I don't know!
