Hi I just recently purchased Windows 8 Pro for my upgrade to a gaming laptop and I'd like to know will PC games that work in Windows 7 work in Windows 8? I'll provide my games in case someone knows how the compatibility will work with the games I have. My PC games are: Crysis, Crysis 2, Devil May Cry 4, Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening Special Edition, Bioshock 2, X Blades, Metro 2033, Diablo 2, Final fantasy XI Online: Vana'Diel Collecion 2007, Final Fantasy XIV Online, and Sonic Adventure DX. If anyone knows the compatibility with these games in Windows 8 or knows that games that work in Windows 7 will work in Win8 let me know.

There is no real difference application wise between 7 and 8. If it works on 7, you should have no problems on 8. Just make sure your system is fully updated with Win 8 drivers.

Most of them should work, if not all, in compability mode.
Right click the shortcut/exe and use Troubleshoot compability, use recommended settings.
New games should work without that, and some others too.
You know, you can always go back to Win7 too :p

Hey I'm trying to play Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 on my new Windows 8 computer. The program installed but won't run. If I click on the desktop shortcut nothing happens, if I go to my computer and click on the game there the launcher will appear but the "play" and "set language" buttons are grayed out. I've tried running it in compatibility mode but Windows 8 is not listed in possible operating systems. I've also tried running a compatibility trouble shoot but that doesn't have fixed the problem either. Anything else I can try that might work?

Every game I have tried so far has worked totally without issue on windows 8 - in fact I was reading an article somewhere that said 8 even provides a performance boost over 7 on the same rig! Go for it!

EDIT: I was even able to play dungeon keeper - that was only supposed to work on win 95 and still runs!

I think I had to download a patch or community mod, but I had to do the same for win 7 so if you have it working it should continue!

Beachboy..

running in compatibility mode is running in a mode for a previous version of windows say that the game did work on its like its an emulation of that O/S same as D-fend is an emulation program that is used to run old DOS games since windows doesnt always like to run them the same way...

anyway the idea of compatibility wizard and changing them settings there are to 'pretend' as if you are on another type of pc and fool the game into working as they did then ...so by checking the boxes use 256 colors even if you use millions of colors normally as most of do these days when it starts the game it drops down the color mode to 256 'in game only' when you exit the game you may see for a sec it shows the colors of background as odd for a sec til the color mode jumps back to normal...but by changing those
things you may make the game playable then ...same with other options they allow us to solve reasons for why the program isnt working,,,,the install may work often as often ..but the game wont "for example" some games when go to full screen use DirectX and they may want to or install a very old version of it and you have a way higher version already installed with windows 8 'same with windows 7' so you may actually ruin your active X by installing the old version ';over your existing or have mixed versions...I always skip doing it (like when installed dungeon keeper over dont do the Direct X install just the game itself) since know its old! and just install the game only .....anyway found this info on another site

you need to add the app from the steam folder; SteamApps, Common, Command and Conquer Red Alert 3 and use that. Not the steam version that's found under the steam game library. Just add RA3 app in Vista mode, some of the others modes don't work.
