Hello,

Is Logitech Setpoint necessary with Windows 8? I have a Logitech MX 518 gaming mouse. I would install it but it doesn't have a download link for Windows 8 which is worrying.

Hello Arv3n. Welcome to EightForums.

My Logitech Performance MX also uses Setpoint. Even though there is no Windows 8 download, the Windows 7 Setpoint works fine. Been using it for a year in 8. There is a huge difference in before and after performance for the wheel. The wheel is very accurate after installing the Windows 7 Setpoint and before the install the wheel has clunky movements. Rolling the wheel a fraction of a millimeter has an effect and without setpoint (V7) rolling the wheel sometimes does not have a smooth scrolling effect. You should be able to program your buttons as well.

Some mice have a smooth rolling wheel and many others have wheel movements that are segmented by a configurable number of page lines. bumpy... ( The Logitech Setpoint for 7 should work OK, it's compatible - does not require compatibility mode )

I have a G9 mouse that has a lot of setting that can be tweaked with Setpoint. However, on my last build, I never bothered to install it and the generic Windows drivers work fine on the mouse. If the mouse seems to be working, don't worry about it.

I believe a lot of vendors are waiting until Oct 26 when Windows 8 will go GA and released for sale before releasing their Windows 8 version of their products. That is what RTM is all about. The vendors get the final version and have time to update their products before Windows 8 is released to the public.

Good point, Jim. I have read in several comments from a company's forum that the drivers will be released when the product comes out. It also gives them more time to test the software before releasing it. We beta testers don't count!
