I have a Compaq Presario C74EM which I just installed Win 8 RP. The sound did not work.
Eventually I was able to find and install drivers - sound still didn't work, but after following the advice on a forum post, I put the computer to sleep, waited a few minutes, woke it up, and sound now works.
This computer came with Win Vista home. Supposedly the Compaq Win7 drivers will work with Win8. Compaq (hp) has utilities that will go through any/all drivers, and update to the latest.
Does anyone know how to get this going under Win 8?
