Until about 2 weeks ago, everything was fine. Now, not every time, but a majority of the time, when I launch firefox (latest release) I kills my wireless lan connection. IE doesn't do this. If I manually connect, it stays for about 10 seconds, then disconnects again, if I reconnect again, it will be stable for the rest of the time I keep firefox open. If I close and reopen , the problem will happen again. I have check boxed the auto-reconnect feature, it wont, I have to double click and click connect for it to establish a connection. Just using a standard Gateway laptop which has aQualcomm Atheros AR5B93 Wireless Network Adapter , no updates for this driver. The wireless network is of course encrypted.

I have had a similar problem since Vista. In my case it was a struggle to get on the web, on first switch on and then constant loss when I was not using the computer. After a couple of years, this was found by my ISP, to be an almost totally severed line to my house - discovered after a lightening strike.
However, back to your problem. In my case, I was able to improve my situation, throughout this time, like this.
If you open the device manager, and then your "Network adapters", you should see an entry there, "Microsoft Kernel Debug network adapter". I have no idea what the function is, of this. But, since my problem arose, I now disable this as soon as I install Windows. It was not my imagination, but it did help me enormously.

Use several different computers during a day, so specs are irrelevant.

Sorry I see no such device listed.

If you installed the latest driver already from my link and are still suffering troubles, look to your firewall and/or router. Update router firmware and uninstall (not just disable) firewall.

Disable IPv6 and its services in Windows if not using Homegroup.

Services = IP Helper and all Homegroup ones.

Uninstall all 3rd party networking softwares if still needed, to test.

My wireless network drivers are the latest revision. I am currently using homegroup as I have multiple machines on my network and it s quick and easy way to transfer files between the machines. I have not updated the router firmware because the other machines, running Win 7 wireless do not have the same issues, they stay connected no matter im running. No 3rd party stuff install, problems just started about 3 weeks ago. Have just killed the firewall.Ill let you know
