Hello,

I'm dual booting win 7 and win 8 cp on an old Exopc tablet and everything seems to work OK execpt the paint app from the store which refuse to work. I know it's not recent hardware but it does the job in general. My problem is with windows media player on win 8. I can play an HD MP4 video on media player in win 7 with no problem but if i try the same video with media player in win 8 it plays in slow motion. I tried VLC player and it's the same thing. It's the same hardware for both OS , so what can be the problem? Are there any drivers or codecs i could try? I know that if i need to watch videos i can always boot in win 7 and watch the video and the problem is solved but eventualy when win 8 comes out in oct i'll get rid of the win 7 partition and just keep win 8 on the tablet. I have a laptop and desktop with win 7 64 bit so there's no need to keep win 7 it on the tablet.
Thanks.

P.S. By the way both OS are 32 bits on the tablet.

There have been complaints about video playback on the CP and the RP. I've not seen any real fixes (Other than making sure your video dviers are the REAL drivers and not the default ones installed with the OS).

Hopefully something they fixed for release. I know I'm not going to be upgrading my HTPC With win 8 until this is straightened out. (It gets even worse with multiple monitors and the player not having focus too, something I need for the HTPC constantly)

I have a hunch that your video driver in 8 isn't too great. Check in Windows 7 to see what the driver version and maker is.

To do that, type in Device Manger in the start menu, click on Display Adapters, double click it and click on drop down item. Do the same in 8. I think the video driver in 8 is a generic driver from Microsoft that might be allowing your tablet PC to just chug along graphically.

I also have another hunch. I was watching me some Sherlock Holmes and it was in 1080p definition. It was a bit choppy, then I switched the power plan from Balanced to High Performance. Problem solved. That actually might be your fix right there.

Hello,

As someone suggested i checked the display adapter drivers on both win 7 and 8. The version of win 8 is newer than in win 7.So i decided to download the oldest Intel GMA 3150 driver and install it on win 8. So i selected to delete the previous driver and of course during the install i got the message asking me if, i was sure since my current one was newer that the one i wanted to install. After the install i rebooted and then checked the driver version. It still shows the newer version. Do i have to manually delete the driver? One thing i noticed is that when going to Intel for the driver, the one listed there is the one i have for win 7. I don't see the one that came with win 8. Any more suggestions?

Have you tried changing the power options? Balanced power setting is a tad different between 7 and 8. Change it to High Performance and see if anything changes.

Hello,

Tried it and no change there. So far the only player that works OK is Media Player Classic. However i find the interface crappy. Usually in a media player you have the play and pause on the same button and you can just toggle between the two. So if you want to pause and play fast you can do it. In the case of MPC there is a separate button for play and pause so you have to switch between the two. Also it doesn't seems to play the movie full screen. So as stated in my original post, Media player in Win 8 plays in slow motion, VLC is even worse as i have pixilated portions of the image also tried GOM player with results similar to Media Player. Also tried lesser known players which didn' t solve the problem. Can we skin MPC to a better looking interface? So, if MPC works OK then it's not hardware related or display driver related. Do MPC use special drivers and can they be used for other players?

hehe MPC is pretty basic but it is the one I have chosen for my HTPC (using the CCCP codec pack) due too it just working and so many others just not working. Though I have to admit that I have not tried them in Windows 8. I'm not planning on upgrading my HTPC until it explodes or something.

Yeah VLC is WAY behind on the latest tweaks to the codecs/containers/subtitle formats etc, It's great for loading any general or random old video files but when playing the latest stuff it chokes a lot, macro block explosions etc.

What do you mean MPC it won't play full screen though? Try double clicking on the video as it's playing, it should go to full screen.
