Funny how the guy with the netbook gets pushed aside, oh well, I got better stuff cooking when I build my new gaming desktop.
drivers and install?
I tried to PM you and I don't think you receive PMs? I'm having all kinds of problems installing on older HW - but nothing IDE so i'm just wondering. I'm trying to install on all Dell HW and stuff that's 100% supported on W7 + XP/XP64 & 2k3. Just need to test this on a few different sets of hardware for proprietary software comparability.
Because I posted in this tread I'll give in with pics & stuff... Normally I don't do this crap but I want the attention because I really have a problem and I need a resolution. Thx for looking.
I'm also going to make a point to say that the best purchase I've made over the last 3 years has been my Lenovo Ideapad S12 netbook (pictured below closed). That thing is badass... has done everything I need and has taken a literal beating including a Vespa and a motorcycle crash, being stolen & recovered... Its awesome and by far the best device I own.
No I don't work for Lenovo (but I'll gladly take a job).
Anyone who wants to flame or whatever send me a PM and I'll be happy to post a picture of my driver's license & a copy of the Wall Street Journal next to any of these systems... or if you want to come to NYC you are welcome to see them for yourself.
This is really old but it shows how I used to live in an 85-90 degree apartment with wayyyy to many boxes running.... I've racked most of that junk and dumped all the Xeon 5400 stuff and upgraded to 5600 chipsets or still have some legacy engineering sample 5580 type CPUs.
In a spare room, just a storage & eBay repository. That is all old crap that needs to go.
My usual office:
Took this a few weeks ago when I was listing a bunch of stuff on ebay, new apartment (it sucks) but essentially the same setup consisting of monitor, mouse, keyboard... nothing special... same as I posted above in initial pic but now my wife doesn't complain about the power bill.
Set this up about 2 years ago... when I left it was neat & nice not messy and all F'd up:
Don't have a work pic but this is what I have at work... in real life it looks like all the rest - keyboard + mouse + monitor attached to a computer.
Work also has a decent view of the WTC pit & new towers going up as well as the Hudson River, etc.
So that's it. New office is the first widescreen setup I've ever had. I'm 50/50... I wish they made 24" flat panel monitors because I'd buy them.
Thx for looking and I have some major driver issues so look at my other threads because I can't get W8 working or even installed in some cases... Thx!!!
The one that keeps me sane:
yes that's coke and yes my wive tends to use that as storage from time to time.... deal with it.
wistontj: The only problems I had was the first hard drive I tried to use was bad...and since the drives came from different places the jumpers were wrong, to add more fun to the mix some were missing the labels...
Once all that was sorted out the instal went smoothly, the native drivers for windows 8 works fine...no !'s in device manager...I didn't install any Nivida drivers for the 8500 gt.... because.....Yep it's a bad card....
I think you need to have a certain # of posts / or be friends with, in order to send a PM, due to nobody's favorite.....spammers
A lot of people will talk bad about a E machine, but my wife's has been fairly problem free....She now has a nice Corsair power supply, and a 4830 video card....If you do any upgrades be sure to save the old parts in case of any warranty problems, and play dumb
The weakest thing is the power supply....The power would blip...and she would come over wanting to know if my system had crashed (It hadn't)....now if she crashes we all crashed....
Ivan, I'm not one to pick eMachines first, I was suppose to get an Acer but it came down to a pure money issue.
My dad bought an eMachines notebook for my cousin and it works great! Great prices too.
It's really hit and miss with them. But alas take what you can get.
