Windows 8.1, cannot write to any USB device

I have a Dell Venue Pro 11 running Windows 8.1 Enterprise. I cannot write to any USB device. If I plug a thumb drive in it's recognized in Windows Explorer. I can read from the device. But when I try to write to it nothing happens. The progress meter stays at 0%. I've tried changing permissions on the USB drive but it says the drive is write protected or I don't have appropriate permissions. I've tried this on several drives, exFAT, NTFS, and all drives that work fine in my other machines (Win10, OSX, Win7). The Venue Pro is a tablet and only has one USB slot so it's not a matter of trying a different one either.

I don't this this is related to any specific USB drive but rather my permissions as a User but I'm having no success in figuring out how to change that.

Any and all help appreciated.

If you have locked the switch by mistake then, the only way is to search for the switch and unlock it. There is no other way to remove the write protection from that device.

Windows 8 probably has an unlock for usb device -- somewhere within Control Panel, maybe in Device Manager. Having only Windows 7, I do not know how to guide you to the software-side unlock.

Hello dmizesr,
Is it your personal machine or your company-owned machine?

If it is a company-owned machine the administrator could have disabled writing to USB storage devices and you may have to contact the administrator.
