I have my HP 8500 Pro set up to print, but I cannot scan. Any word on how to do this? When I went to scan/fax, it says that I have no scanner hooked up. Any suggestions?

What are you using for drivers?

Have you downloaded and installed the Windows 7 package for your PC? (You may have to use the "troubleshooting" install mode.)

I don't have an all-in-one like that, but I've had no trouble with drivers for my individual devices (Epson scanner, Brother printers, Canon photo printer).

How do you go to scan? I used to go through the HP software, but now I am lost.

I generally scan into Photoshop, but even the basic Paint program that comes with Windows 8 supports scanning.

Paint does not recognize a scanner. Should I download Photoshop?

You could try the trial version. (The retail version is expensive.)

However, if Paint doesn't see the scanner, it sounds like you don't have drivers installed for it.

Does the scanner show up in your Devices control panel? (I'd guess not.)

No it doesn't show up. Neither does my printer, but the printer works. I don't understand how to install the drivers. When I installed the printer, Windows 8 automatically installed it with it's drivers. There was not an application to install the printer. I also cannot do a Windows Update either. The computer connects to the web and email is fine, but the Update does not connect.

HP lists a number of different "8500 Pro" all-in-ones.

Here's a link to the full software package for the first of them:

HP Officejet Pro Full Feature Software and Driver HP Officejet Pro 8500 All-in-One Printer - A909a - HP Customer Care (United States - English)=

(Nearly 300 MB in size.)

I have no way of testing that. I hope that it'll install, but you may have to run it using the "troubleshooting" mode. (I've managed to install some Windows 7 drivers that way.)

If that doesn't work, I hope that you can find some local help. Maybe there are people here with the level of experience to talk you through your install, but I'm not one of them.

The software from HP was released last year and will not work with Windows 8. I might call HP and see if there is a resolution yet. If there is, I will post the details.

There may well be a work-around for that. In the past I extracted the driver package with 7Zip (freeware), and bypassed the normal installer to avoid Windows version checking.

As I don't own such an all-in-one, I won't experiment.

Good day to both of you.

Yes, later version of drivers will not work in Win8.

But have you try not to install the driver and let Windows 8 detect the HP!? Give a try for this one.

If Windows 8 detect the hardware go to Windows Update and make an update when there is no downloadable software just restart and try to make scan.

If Windows 8 did not detect the update it might reflect to the platform both hardware, in PC and printer incompatibility.

Please let us know once you have try. :)

Sounds hostile, and maybe it is: my apologies ahead of time.
My HP is the C309g and according to the Windows compatibility page, it is compatible.
NOT.
I went to Costco, purchased the HP 6700 all-in-None (as I will call it). According to the HP rep, compatible. According to the Windows 8 compatibility page, compatible.
NOT!
Needless to say, the 6700 goes back tomorrow. The c309 Im stuck with, because its 2-3 years old.

When Vista came out, HP printers were not compatible.
When XP came out, HP, Lexmark, and, virtually all brands were not compatible.
With 8 coming out, it seems all on the market HP all-in-nones are NOT compatible. I cannot verify other brands, but, I am looking, because I for one am damned tired of buying a new printer just because the companies refuse to create patches/drivers.

I hope everyone will join me in creating backlash over this, and forcing companies to take notice that we will NOT put up with this.
Granted, printers are cheaper than ever. That is not our problem. Companies do not make the same profit they once did. That is not our problem. They make millions of dollars per gallon on ink cartridges (scary, huh? And we complain about $3-5 a gallon for gas? :p). So, I have zero sympathy for these companies. I feel they need to play nice, or, get out of the game.

Sorry, I have no work around for you, as I have the same issues. I can't blame MS, b/c they play with the vendors, and they have known for 3+ years MS was working on 8. I know this to be true, because *I* knew about 8 days after 7 was released; and if I knew about it, the vendors had to know. And, I also know the vendors get to play to make things work. HP, apparently does not care to. Therefore, I do not care to play with them any more.
