Microsoft really, really wants you on the Windows RT bandwagon

June 28, 2012, 12:04 PM — On day 2 at TechEd Europe 2012, Microsoft rushed us out to the outskirts of Amsterdam into a revamped tennis hall (which sounds far less impressive than it actually was) to tell us about Windows 8. And after a fairly generic walkthrough of the features, Microsoft jumped right into the meat of developing for Windows 8 and some of the under-the-hood enhancements.

Ted Dworkin, Partner Director of Program Management, entered the stage at the Windows 8 workshop to talk about all the benefits of jumping on the Metro bandwagon: "We'll give developers 70% of their revenue and even 80%, if the app earns more than $25,000 -- we want to entice developers to develop great apps."

"We will give 70%..... " Would not be a great world; only Metro Apps sell on MS store, only MS tablets and PC , Only cloud computing true MS servers. No need to worry about the choices, they will be no choice; you will work, pay your taxes, your rent or loan and of course monthly fees for you Software.

Lol! Microsoft has to push RT development because there are, like, no metro apps (if you didn't just read that in a valley girl accent, you should have). Unless the metro store grows substantially, Surface RT purchasers are going to be really annoyed when they get their shiny device home and discover that there is NO usable music management app available for metro and metro mail doesn't thread e-mails into conversations.

Yes, it is a major issue.

One of the reasons iobjects sell so well is their app. store.

Not sure how MS playing this.

As far as we can gather, they are launching tablets to compete with the ipad.

They don't seem to be able to undercut ipad price - they may even be more expensive.

They have no apps. to offer.

They do not have the premium brand "must have" factor which Apple have created.

I don't know how they can pull it off.

I suppose there is always the fact that Surfi are new. The ipad has been around a while.

That will generate some interest - people love new things.

They think way too far ahead without any consequences or even in the competitive market beyond their expectations. Even though they are loyal to them from the start they can't predict consumers to accept every changes that they do.
