Hello Ajay06!

I'm sorry for your WD HDD! :/

I suppose it's an external drive? Which is the model, is it a My Passport Ultra or may be a MyBook? What happened prior to this issue occurring?

Please change the cable of the drive and try it on multiple USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports and on another system. If the results are the same it means there’s something wrong with the drive itself or the enclosure. I can troubleshoot more when I know the exact model, 0820 is unfortunately not a model number or similar. :/

Try connecting the drive and running the WD Data Lifeguard supportsoftware: Support Answers, does it detect the drive? Please run the Quick test and post a screenshot of the SMART values.

Hi CK,

Thank you for the fast reply,it is My Passport ultra and the issue occurred suddenly it was working fine until the previous day and i have changed the cable and tried in two different machines and all the ports but still it does not work.
Though when i plugged in my friend machine it gave me a prompt to format the disk after removing it(a little weird nothing happens when plugged in).
It detects the drive and it is shown in the Disk Drive in Device manager but has drive letter F assigned to it and keeps loading in My Computer as in the above screenshotdisk man.JPG
When i try to run the test with data lifeguard the application does not open until i remove my external wd drive and the second thing when i try open disk management it freezes when the hdd is connected tried easeus partition same effect freezes when the hdd is inserted.

These are not good signs at all.

This means the device has an error with its file system most probably, hence it's prompting you to reformat; additionally, the fact everything freezes and lags, could mean hardware damage or error of some sort. :(

Do you have any data you wish to save from the drive? Please connect the drive and post a screenshot from Disk Management. You could also try booting into a Linux/Ubuntu Live CD and checking if the drive would successfully be accessed through there.

Hi Ck,

The Data is not so important they are just movies and my friend has a backup of it.The Disk management does not open up when the HDD is connected it just keeps on loading until the HDD is unplugged.I will try to access it via Live CD and update you shortly.

Update:
Tried the Ubuntu live cd and tried to format and the name of the HDD changed and when i try to copy or reformat Ubuntu does not respond gives me a error "error unmounting /dev/sdb1"

It looks like the drive is severely damaged. If it doesn't work through the Live CD, on a completely different PC with another cable or diskpart commands:

  1. Open the Start Menu, type diskpart, press Enter
  2. Type list disk, press Enter
  3. Type select disk X (where X is the number the certain drive), press Enter
  4. Type clean, press Enter
  5. Type create partition primary, press Enter
  6. Type format quick fs=ntfs, press Enter
  7. Type assign, press Enter
  8. Type exit, press Enter

Then it looks like the drive can't be operating again. :/ I would suggest you try and RMA it if it's still under warranty.
