hi there ;)
i bought a IOGEAR Bluetooth usb adapter for my computer now i want to get the right driver for it but here starts the fun
on the USB is written "GBU521" on the mini CD that came with the adapter is written "GBU521.GBU521W6" when i plugged in the adapter in my PC Windows automatically downloaded the drivers for it and the name in "Devices And Printers" is "BCM20702A0" :zip:
so what is the correct device name to be able to get the "latest" driver?

(i know that i am able to just install the software that came with the adapter [on the mini CD] but i don't want to as in
1. i bought it on ebay so i don't know if i could trust 100% percent the guy that sold it that this is indeed the correct driver [i don't want any BSOD'es from this]
2. i always like to go to the vendors site and get the latest drivers from there [it's better and safer]
3. now that i don't know what's the name [and that there already a driver installed] i don't want to start up with my PC and get a BSOB)
(and yes i know that why not leave it as it is? well i still want a hard copy of the latest driver as i am not always on a internet accessible PC)

thanks in advance to all :D THANK YOU :D

Is "GBU521" stamped like embedded on the usb Blue tooth adaptor if it is then that is the number you need.
On the cd that came with it covers both yours and several other drivers.
I have a cd for my printer and on the disc it not only covers my printer but all of them in that series, when you insert the cd with the adaptor it will find the drivers for that make.#
The third number is Microsoft own number, if you uninstall their number and put disc in it should install the driver and update the latest software for it.
Hope I have helped you and explained how the cd works

Bluetooth, (and other network), USB adaptors utilise drivers designed for a specific chipset, rather than a specific maker of the device. Broadcom is one of the major suppliers of bluetooth hardware to OEM manufacturers. From the BCM prefix I would assume that Windows has discovered a broadcom chipset and installed the latest driver for this type of device.

The Microsoft drivers will normally be later than the on disc version, but will possibly only provide basic feature support. whilst this may be an issue for complex hardware a bluetooth adaptor is a pretty simple device and so the Microsoft drivers should be sufficient.

Broadcom do not always make drivers available to end users but the actual manufacturer's site may have full feature drivers available.

Note - Microsoft does not actually write drivers except for it's own hardware, but sources them from OEM developers of the hardware so their drivers could be full featured and later than the manufacturers

When you install anything like in your usb port if no disc came with it then Microsoft will install a default driver.

what u could do is uninstall the Bluetooth from program and feathers,
put the Bluetooth back in and if it come up have you disc or would you like Microsoft to find them for you click I have disc insert it and it will install one of either the drivers on that disc.
if it comes up not right disc then install Microsoft drivers and inform e-bay that the seller sold you a Bluetooth device with the wrong information.
They will put a black mark against his name and try and get some if not all of your money back

Go to Device Manager and in the Details for the device look at Hardware ID, copy the first line and do a online search, should see results for what it really is.

thanks
but i might as well show that this is nearly impossible as a bluetooth device has more than one device in it as you can see in the attached images

Going by those pics I would say you have a Broadcom BCM20702 chip in that device no matter what is stamped on the case. Those are the drivers I would install. I have an Intel Bluetooth chip and install Intel drivers but portions of the Bluetooth still install MS drivers. Bluetooth is such a generic hardware device that many different drivers often work.

I would uninstall all those random devices and reboot, see if they come back.

thanks for your help much appreciated
just that i decided to go to the original manufacturers site and check it out and came out that the driver is the same for most devices so i just downloaded that
(the reason i rather would take that is that for bluetooth i already have the driver just i knew that there should be more functions available)

thanks anyway you guys are great:thumb:
