I recently installed windows 8.1 on my Asus R510CA(motherboard ASUSTeK X550CA) and the built-in web cam is not working anymore. This seems to be a problem with asus laptops and upgrading to windows 8 but none of the posts i saw don't apply to my model or even give me a driver to try. I tried all the basic trouble shooting ideas from all those posts like uninstalling the driver and reinstalling, driver troubleshooting, asus website, updated bios and, trying to pick from the list of basic drivers.. None of these work so any help is appreciated. It comes up as USB2.0 HD UVC WebCam but it's built-in,

Here's my hardware id if it helps

USB\VID_0BDA&PID_5606&REV_0530&MI_00
USB\VID_0BDA&PID_5606&MI_00

EDIT- I tried playing with the camera settings and it's fully updated

Welcome to the forum,

That's looking pretty tough to find, they list 82 camera drivers here,

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download Camera

None match those hardware ID's that you posted.

I believe it's a composite device that needs other drivers for other components installed as well.

The 0BDA part seems to be related to Realtek, do you have the other three realtek drivers installed? (Audio, LAN & Card Reader)

That may kick something in to gear.

There's also sites like this to test basic working conditions of the camera and other related components,

I just saw some other Realtek drivers available for your model, that looks like it may be using the Microsoft driver, is that what it says on the driver tab?

The other Realtek drivers were under W8.

Did you restart after installing those drivers?

I was hoping it would kick in some different hardware ID's, the ones in your first post are leading nowhere, the 5606 points to and Acer device.

There are only a few vendors that make those cameras as you can see in that link I posted above.

There are some utilities under the W8 tab as well that are related to the camera.

thank you so much. It works now, the virtual camera utility fixed it. The built in camera app exposure controls made no difference lol.

Excellent! That's good to know, there are quite a few hits on Google trying to get that to work.

You're welcome, glad you got it sorted. :)
