No one is suggesting that you do anything and I will state outright that you should do nothing. Everything is working as designed. Why do you want to disable a useful feature in order to save a trivial amount of disk space?

    see my previous picture post..

apparently these "useful features" as journal, ain't even enabled! haha..

in the end, I'm not going to do anything.. but getting 300mb back for me is worth it because I'm using this drive as a total storage drive..

and then I have another two 4teraybyte drives to backup that ... as i'm following advice from here to have 2 backups..

I just want all the space I can.. I have backups and so if one goes, I have the backups..

the pain is copying all this crap to each of them!

so hopefully now you can see I just want space.. not functionality to restore my files easily.. .. thats why i have 2 other 4 terabyte backup drives..

There is nothing you can do that will reduce the 300 MB very much, not that it would be worthwhile anyway.

Be aware that for optimum operation you should have about 10% minimum free space on a drive. The entire 300 MB is less than .01%.

Saving this 300 MB is NOT worthwhile.

External drive
I know there is no such thing as a dumb question, but I have one that might come close. Can Windows 8 be installed on an external drive via a USB cable? I have an external drive that I use for backup. If it would work, I would create a new volume on it and install on that.
